"Brian's team is excellent....very friendly, respectful of our church school Covid rules, truly care about the job they do. They did an excellent job prepping the walls and repainting our church school gym. Would hire again. Highly recommend!"

"We are thrilled with the great job that Denis and his co-workers did on our deck. They thoroughly sanded, washed, and meticulously applied 2 coats of stain. Denis even voluntarily came back with his nail gun first thing the next morning to fix a loose piece of trim. They were VERY hard working, very nice, and good about contacting us."

"We hired Dede to paint the interior of the house we'd just bought, and he did a great job on a tight timeline. Gaps and stains were caulked and covered, weird scalloped trim removed, and the entire house looks great. They left the house cleaner than they found it. A little expensive, but he worked with us to get closer to our budget, and there was no one else who could get the house done within our schedule. Would definitely rehire and recommend!"

"The prep power washing was done on a Saturday, I was very happy about that so I didn't have to take two days off of work. The stain work was done on the following Wednesday. The quality of the bush and roll work was good, the stain didn't dry as quickly as it probably should have, possibly due to the proximity of the power washing and rain the day before. this meant the deck furniture caused a little damage when replaced three days later, not the amount of damage that could not be fixed easily, just a nuisance. The stain has since cured and hardened and looks very good.

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

It is definitely worth sanding a deck to ensure the wood absorbs new stain. Sanding a deck removes the outer layers of aging wood, allowing the stain to penetrate. It also gives a fresh look to the entire surface as part of the deck refinishing process. Without sanding, your stain or sealant is less likely to absorb into the wood. While sanding a deck is a time-intensive project, the rewards are noticeable and long-lasting.

Essential tools include brushes or rollers, drop cloths, sandpaper or power sanders, and appropriate cleaning supplies. Quality materials ensure long-lasting results.

It’s a good idea to sand your porch before painting. This will remove loose or chipped paint and debris, and give you a cleaner surface so that your new paint goes on smoothly. But if the existing surface is in good condition, it’s not necessary to sand your porch before you paint.

The need for a topcoat on a painted deck depends on various factors, primarily the type of paint used and your desired level of protection. Many premium deck paint formulations are self-sealing, eliminating the necessity for an additional topcoat. These paints often have built-in additives that substantially protect against moisture, UV rays, and everyday wear and tear.

A wood deck requires annual cleaning and regular inspections for loose or broken boards, nails, and screws. It should be refinished by applying a stain or sealer every two to three years to protect the wood from water damage, rot, mildew, and sun fading. The exact frequency can depend on the climate and the deck's exposure to sun and moisture. If your deck is painted, it will need repainting approximately every 10 years. Signs that your deck needs refinishing include faded, splintering, or warping boards.
