"Oscar and his crew not only repaired a crack in the fireplace but he found that previous workers from another company didn t connect the attic furnace to the chimney. And that the exhaust pipe for the hot water heater had rusted . So he and Alberto were able to repair everything with absolutely no mess."

"Vinny and Eric are the owners of All County Chimney, do all of the work and are fully insured. They arrived on time, protected the area surrounding the fireplace and discussed the approach they would use to clean the chimney. The original plan was to clean the chimney from the roof top down. This wasn t possible because our chimney is pretty far off the roof and no safe place to place a ladder. They were thorough, neat and provided an explanation of what and why they were doing what they were doing. I personally like the idea that the owners are the ones doing the chimney cleaning. They were not the highest or the lowest quote. I chose them because: 1. Vinny responded quickly to my inquiry 2. I like the idea of the owner doing the job 3. Excellent communication and follow up While on-site they did NOT try to sell me anything we didn t need (e.g., chimney repairs). We had an excellent experience and will call them when it s time for our next cleaning."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

DIY is not recommended due to safety and venting requirements. Professional installation ensures proper operation and compliance with codes.

No. Pellet stoves are specifically designed to burn manufactured wood or biomass pellets. Attempting to burn other materials, such as regular firewood or paper products, can damage the stove, compromise its efficiency, and even pose safety hazards due to inconsistent combustion and increased emissions. It's crucial to follow manufacturer guidelines and only use pellets that are specifically recommended for your pellet stove model to ensure safe and optimal performance over its life span.

Ideally, your chimney cap should be at least 8 inches above the top of the flue, though it's better if it's even higher. You want it to sit that high because it won't affect the chimney's draft, which pulls the smoke up and out of your chimney and away from your home.

Yes, removing a chimney is a difficult and major undertaking. Chimneys often provide structural support to a home, so if it's a load-bearing structure, you'll need to take extra precautions to maintain your home's integrity. A project of this complexity typically requires a structural engineer, a masonry contractor, and a demolition crew. The removal process may involve taking the chimney out brick by brick from inside the walls. The cost for chimney removal can range from $2,000 to $10,000, depending on the job's complexity. Due to the difficulty and cost, some homeowners opt to remove the fireplace and seal the chimney at the top and bottom, sometimes also removing the visible exterior portion at the roofline.

The cost to replace a chimney is about $10,000 on average and can cost up to $15,000, depending on the size, accessibility, materials, and extent of the replacement. Sometimes tearing the chimney down to the roof line and rebuilding it is an option. But if the chimney's internal structure deteriorates badly enough, a complete demolition down to the fireplace or the foundation may be necessary.
