"After not having a working hot water tank for almost a year this man changed my world by installing a new hot water tank on Saturday. Other companies turned me away, one after another. I was about to give up when I gave Angie's list another try. I can't thank you enough for helping me. This morning I took my first shower in many, many, moons instead of heating water for a make shift shower/bath. I did dishes without having to heat water on the stove. Thank you, for your kindnes Thank you for helping me."

"Not only is Jeff a great contractor, he is kind and personable and did a wonderful job replacing my water and sewer pipes. I would give him a 10+ rating if it was available on this website and will most definitely hire him again and refer him to family and friends. Great Job Jeff!!!!"

"Milt is a customer oriented professional. He did an outstanding job in walking me through decision analysis on whether to repair, replace in kind or replace with a tankless water heater. We decided to go with tankless with a pay back period analysis and competitively choose between Lowe’s and Home Depot. He carried out the procurement and installation of the new tankless water heater with high quality. Thanks for job well done."

Small jobs welcome

"So happy we chose R&D for our exterior wall repairs! they were great to work with throughout the process of what turned out to be a complicated issue. Their communication was really appreciated as they dug into things and problem solved some unique issues with how the previous home owners had cut corners on the house. R&D wasn’t the cheapest initial bid we received but I have no doubt that we would have wound up paying more in the end for a lower quality result with anyone else. Thanks guys!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

The most common places for water leaks in a home are the fixtures we use most often: the kitchen and bathroom sinks, the showerhead, and the toilet. These components all contain moving parts and O-rings that prevent water from flowing through when the fixtures are shut off, and these can wear down over time and lead to minor drips or significant leaks. You can sometimes employ a DIY solution to replace aerators or faucet O-rings that could be causing the leak, but it’s usually best to call in a professional for a permanent fix.

The amount of water wasted when a toilet ghost flushes depends on the cause of the ghost flushing. Leaky flapper valves tend to waste less water than a larger problem like a damaged flush valve that makes the toilet run constantly. Even if you don’t think you’re wasting a lot of water, it’s still a problem that should be fixed quickly.

It is generally recommended to schedule a professional plumbing inspection annually, though an inspection every two years may be sufficient for newer homes. The ideal frequency depends on several factors, including the age of your plumbing system, water quality (such as hardness), and any previous plumbing issues. More frequent checks are advisable for older homes or those with a history of problems. Additionally, if your property has mature trees with extensive root systems, more frequent inspections are beneficial as roots can crack sewer and water lines. Regular maintenance helps identify potential issues early, preventing costly repairs, and can include checking for leaks, inspecting connections, and ensuring pipes and fixtures are in good working condition to prolong the life of your plumbing system.

Any drain in your house requires a water trap to prevent sewer gases from entering the home. Dishwashers don’t have an internal water trap, so they must use an external P trap. The most convenient P trap for the dishwasher is already in the plumbing under your sink.

Yes, you can use your steam shower to take regular showers and steam showers. Many people opt to use a regular shower daily while using the steam shower less frequently when they have more time. Keep in mind that after you take a steam shower you’ll need to run the fan longer than after regular showers to avoid mold and mildew growth. You’ll also need to clean your shower more often if you’re using the steam function.
