"     In order to complete to layout design I submitted a drawing of the room as well as a series of photos.  The website for Homemade design has a questionaire what helps define your overall tastes in design.  I joined Pinterest and started boards for furniture, lighting, bookshelves which were reviewed.  Homemade design comes to New York periodically to meet with clients not in the Boston area and this gave us a chance to meet and select furniture and upholstery at the New York Design center.  This is an extra charge but well worth it since I was completely overwhelmed.  They were extremely patient and guided me through the process.  At one point I decided to move the television which turned out to be a bad idea -- they explained why it would not worked and I concurred competely after I understood the reasons.  So, they are not afraid to tell you if you going down the wrong road. I live in a New York City townhouse and forget that I do not have a whol lot of space even though my house is huge for NYC. So, I had to be told how to "scale" everything to the space we had to work with, which was helpful
I purchased the service several months ago but was not ready to actually decide on the actual purchases until recently. So, the delay in completion is because of my schedule.  I now hope to finish everything by September.

"Barry was able to diagnose and repair the pool panel short with the GFI and a new GFI outlet was installed in the panel. An additional short was found in the spa light which we chose not to have repaired. Barry was there for one hour and work was done well and professionally. We definitely would use them again. Thanks Barry!!

"Jerome called before arriving to let us know he was on the way.  We recently moved and were getting estimates for installation of a ceiling light, ceiling fans and replacing some GFCIs that were requiring reset for no apparent reason.  We also needed a 220v line installed for our clothes dryer that was enroute.  This house only had a gas line for a gas clothes dryer.
Jerome listened to our concerns and then looked at each item we were inquiring about.  He took the time to explain what he could do, explained  the differences between the various types of GFICs, explained what would be required to install the electrical line for our dryer, etc. He was extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of his trade and we seriously considered using him/his company, NOW Electric.  We were confident in his abilities.  However the estimate was higher than we anticipated and since we were taking additional estimates we waited for all to be completed before comparing them and making a decision.  After receiving other estimates, we decided to go with another company.  Had NOW Electric's estimate been closer to the others, we would have used Jerome without hesitancy.  Unfortunately on a fixed income one has to be mindful of every dollar spent, so cost was the deciding factor in our case.
If cost doesn't matter, then one should not hesitate using NOW Electric as they appeared very competent and very professional.

Lighting questions, answered by experts

Simple repairs like replacing bulbs can be DIY projects, but professionals should handle significant electrical repairs to ensure safety and compliance with electrical standards.

While most general electricians can repair lamps and light fixtures, it is often better to hire a lamp repair specialist. Many electricians prefer larger jobs, such as fixing electrical systems or relocating fixtures, and may not offer lamp repair services due to the small scale of the work. Additionally, some lamps, particularly antique models, require dedicated expertise that a general electrician might not have. A lamp repair specialist will be familiar with various types of fixtures and can provide a more dedicated service. If you have already hired an electrician for a larger project, you can ask them to look at your lamp, but for a standalone repair, a specialist is typically the best option.

If half of a string of Christmas lights is out, it is likely because of a single burned-out, loose, or broken bulb within that section. Long strands of lights often contain more than one circuit, so when one bulb fails, it can cause the entire circuit (or half the strand) to go dark. To fix this, inspect the unlit section and test each bulb to ensure it is tight and functioning properly. Replacing the faulty bulb or repairing a damaged shunt will typically solve the problem.

No, you should not leave LED Christmas lights up all year. While the LED lights themselves are very durable, their wiring and casings can be as vulnerable as any Christmas lights. They’re subject to drying out, experiencing cold or sun damage that causes them to crack, and even damage caused by gnawing pests. (The same is true of incandescents.) If you want your lights to last the years that they’re rated for, bring them inside after Christmas is over.

The cost of lamp repair generally ranges from $30 to $150, with an average cost of around $75. Common repairs like rewiring or replacing a switch typically cost around $60 and $80, respectively. The final price depends on factors such as the type of lamp, the complexity of the issue, and the parts required. Keep in mind that repair costs may be higher for ornate or antique lamps. It's a good practice to ask for a price quote from a professional lamp repair service to determine if the investment is worthwhile.
