Hi my name is Don. I’m 43 years old.\nI have been in the trades for 23 years.\nWhen I was 19, I worked for a contractor who remodel custom luxury homes.\nI spent five years with them and then took what I’ve learned and started a small any man business in California. \nShortly after that economy started to slow down, so I focused on one trade.\nNow that things are looking better I’d like to get back to what I did before.\nI have experience in everything from concrete to roofing, and everything in between.

"Very good job, because of the job we had to help but kinda knew that was a possibility I was aware of. Great to work with and got a very fair deal partially because we were willing lend a hand. Have a woodworking business and I was installing some new breakers and outlets in my shop. So he did need a little help running some wire, long stretch about 80ft and conduit was already installed and had a couple 90 degree corners tough job for any one guy."

"I had 2 other electrical companies come to my house and
screwed up the electrical work with adding more outlets and lighting for my
back yard and pool area. The first and second electrical contractor messed it
up where I kept popping breakers and had an overheating and almost fire from
bad installation until I called VIP Electric.
Mark, owner of VIP Electric came out and within 5 days he corrected
everything and my family and I are now enjoying a beautiful lighting silo wet
lighting VIP had created for us. VIP Electric was worth every penny and I
highly recommend them for any electrical project you may have. This summer I am adding an addition onto my
house where Mark and his crew are already contracted to do all the electrical
work on it. Thank you Mark for understanding my needs.

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Portable generators provide backup power for essential appliances during outages and are easy to relocate.

No, you should never plug a generator directly into a wall outlet in your house. This practice is extremely dangerous, often illegal, and can cause "back-feeding," where power from the generator flows back into utility lines, creating a life-threatening hazard for utility workers. It can also damage your home's electrical system, including appliances like pumps and HVAC fans. If the main power is restored while the generator is connected, it can destroy the generator and cause an electrical fire. To safely connect a generator, you must use a professionally installed transfer switch or an interlocking kit, which prevents back-feeding by disconnecting your home from the utility grid before the generator provides power.

Whole-house generators need to be installed on level ground several feet away from walls and other objects. Because they tap into the electrical system directly, they usually need to be close to your home electrical panel for a transfer switch installation. It also helps with installation if they are near to a gas line or propane tank installation.

In most cases, there are no tax credits available for home generators. However, that’s a general statement that applies to federal tax credits, so you might have access to state or local tax incentives. You can check the Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE) for more information about your area. If you hire a reliable home generator installer, they should also know if there are any state or local perks you can use to reduce your installation costs, including tax breaks and rebates.

Yes, natural gas generators can work without electricity. Natural gas generators are a common type of backup or whole-house generator that operates when the electrical grid isn’t working. The trick is using a transfer switch (which usually needs to be installed with the generator) that safely switches the home electrical system from the power grid to generator power when needed.
