"In the middle of this terrible heat wave our central air system went out. Not really a surprise because extreme heat over an extended period is one of the worst scenarios. I have health issues and really am not supposed to be exposed to extreme heat for extended periods. I called several HVAC companies and was told someone would call me in about a day. The ONLY company to return my call has been Aireserv. Their technician, Joshua Anderson, called late Sunday afternoon and informed me he was finishing a call and I would be next. Then then called again and said he was on his way and would be here in about 15 minutes. It only took him about 5 minutes. I was quit surprised as I didn't expect service until some time during the week. He was quickly up on my roof, diagnosed the problem and repaired the cooling system. He had the part on his truck so no return call was needed. Thank GOD we had cool air again. We thought we were going to need a complete new system and really could not afford one in the near future. Aireserv should be very proud of the Joshua. He is extremely efficient, very considerate, and very knowledgeable. We feel very lucky to have had him as our technician and will always ask for him in the future and recommend him to our friends and family. Thank you Aireserv and especially Joshua! Jerry & Jerri E."

Affordable Plumbers questions, answered by experts

The amount of clean water your cistern can supply depends on its size and the local rainfall patterns. Cisterns range from a few hundred to several thousand gallons in capacity.

To estimate the potential supply, consider the average annual rainfall in your area and the catchment area of your roof. For instance, a 1,000-square-foot roof can collect around 600 gallons of water from just one inch of rainfall.

Multiply this by the average annual rainfall to get a rough idea. However, factors like evaporation and system efficiency will also play a role.

No, all faucets are not compatible with all sinks. Because your countertops and your sink likely have a set number of holes already built in, you’ll need to find a faucet with the same amount of holes to work with your existing sink.

Yes, most bathrooms can be converted into a wet room, but the process often involves extensive renovations. Key requirements include having proper plumbing and the ability to slope the floor slightly for drainage. The conversion process typically requires removing the existing floors to install drainage, replacing drywall with waterproofed cement backer board, waterproofing the walls, and installing new fixtures to create an open, curbless shower space. A skilled home renovation professional can evaluate your bathroom to determine if it's a suitable candidate. It's also worth considering resale value; if you only have one bathroom, converting it to a wet room might not be ideal as many homebuyers prefer to have at least one bathtub.

For easy-to-access pipes, your plumber will shut off the main water line and replace the pipes without demolishing your property. Underground or difficult-to-access pipes require different approaches. There are two ways to replace underground cast iron pipes: trench and trenchless sewer line replacements. Trenchless replacements result in minimal damage to your yard and involve bursting pipes and replacing them with new ones via an access point.

The key difference between a standard spigot (or regular hose bib) and a frost-free hose bib is its design to prevent freezing and pipe bursting during cold weather. A standard spigot is a basic outdoor faucet. In contrast, a frost-free hose bib has a longer stem that extends into the heated interior of the house, placing the shut-off valve inside where it's protected from freezing temperatures. This design, often combined with a downward-sloping supply pipe, ensures water drains out of the faucet body when turned off, preventing ice formation. This allows you to leave the water supply on year-round without the risk of pipe damage, making it a valuable choice for regions with harsh winters.
