"We heard of all service moving from a family members’ recommendation. Move went very smoothly! Nathaniel, SeaBass and Dominic really took care of our furniture, everything was neatly wrapped up so nothing would get damaged. Would hire again!"

"where do I start.....the move was supposed to have come off the previous week, but the u-haul truck that we attempted to pick up was not mechanically fit, needed 6 quarts of oil and had a blinking check engine light.  Umbrella movers at the last moment, the very last moment(went to pick up the truck at 3:00 PM on Tuesday afternoon and the move was scheduled to start at 9 AM Wednesday morning) allowed me to cancel the move and set it for a later date.  Kathryn was so very kind, understanding and most certainly, obviously accommodating.  Of course I sent all of the packers home(Tuesday), which turned out to be a very bad move. I pouted and took a couple of days to come back to reality.  I engaged my oldest son, who is almost AARP age to help.  My significant other and I are over over the proverbial hill and I bring a recent back surgery coupled with Muscular Dystrophy to the mix.  In retrospect we seem to have spent more time in readying the new house than successfully packing the soon to be old one.  It appeared that my son became more involved with preserving his childhood memories and carrying on long standing feuds with certain pictures or artifacts...than taking directions when packing. I should never have let him into the storage cabinets in the garage.  On the day of the move the Umbrella Movers were on time, presentable(clean, appropriately dressed), and ready to go.  Each one introduced himself to me., and Mitchell, the team lead asked me salient questions about existing damage to any of the items and what ever other information I could give him that would make the move as smooth as possible.  I have several pieces from my Grandmother's furniture collection( the 1800's) plus several pieces of art work that are particularly valuable, emotionally and financially.  I also had converted a mirrored credenza, with very straight modern lines to a piece of bedroom furniture.  The house that I am selling has a two room mater suite, and with more room I can put more things in it(smile).  This mirrored wonder was extraordinarily heavy(mirrors, brass, etc.). When this was delivered from the store, the delivery guys had to hold a conference on getting the item to the second floor.  I was very fearful that this fragile, pricey, weighty item would go careening down the stairs.  They shrink wrapped it, and carefully, successfully took it off the second floor, and into the truck.  I assured them that it was being moved to a one story home; they laughed a bit and then said ti didn't matter.(WOW) They placed it in my new bedroom and actually moved it twice because I couldn't decide where I actually wanted it!  Everything was so carefully tended to, including appliances.  Whenever there was a possibility that another option existed for moving and placing in the truck, they asked what I preferred.  There was an open line of communication which was something I had not experienced from movers before.  At one time, I was taking a deep breath, in a fair degree of pain and silently crying(feeling sorry for myself and angry with my son) the tall, very athletic(basketball athletic) mover told me that they would get me moved and I should not worry about anything.  That certainly was uplifting and definitely not in the purview of the normal moving contract(smile).  They moved everything they were asked to.They disassembled and reassembled , never missing a beat.  The only loud and raised voice belonged to my son who should have been named Mad Cap.  My husband who thinks nothing is done right was heard to say on more than one occasion that they were the best movers he has experienced and that they continually worked.  That praise is usually reserved fro himself(smile) and fellow Marines.  There are probably 100 more things they did that I cannot recall with the clarity and purpose I should.  My computer was non-operation because I could not remember where I packed my power cord.....and anyone with a Dell knows that machine gets a bit miffed when you do not use a Dell power cord.....it's been a couple of days.  I have one more family member to move from the city and I will use them again.  Any of my friends who are moving or who might move will get Umbrella Movers as a recommendation from me.   This was the best moving experience I have ever had and I am pretty critical; almost as bad as my significant other(smile).  Use them without fear for you pricey things, your everyday ones, your appliances, they will move you, get it right and relive some of that moving day stress!

"The truck along with 3 men arrived on time to move our two story home. They were super professional and polite. Everything was moved with care, appliances were hooked up correctly and they took their time to ask questions when necessary. Their price was reasonable and what we expected to pay for the length of time. I would absolutely hire Move 4 Leas again."
"Carlos and his team were beyond amazing! They are moving machines! On time, super friendly, very professional and I actually had fun and enjoyed my moving day...it was the least stressful part of my moving process so far.

I was so impressed with the care they took with my items. I always say, I wish the trades we hire would treat the jobs as if it were their own things, and that is exactly how I felt with Move 4 Less. No issues at all and they had me smiling on my moving day...actually laughi

Moving questions, answered by experts

How long it takes to move into an apartment depends on many factors, including the amount of belongings you’re bringing with you, how accessible the apartment is (do you have an elevator, or will you be walking up and down several flights of stairs with boxes?), and whether or not you’re hiring a moving company. Having said that, for a local one-bedroom apartment, it usually takes a moving company between two and five hours to move you in.

There are several effective ways to save money when hiring a moving company, primarily by handling some tasks yourself and being strategic with scheduling. Consider these methods:

  • Pack Your Own Belongings: You can significantly reduce costs by packing and protecting your items yourself. This includes wrapping delicate items, organizing them into boxes, and taping the boxes closed. You can use towels, clothes, and suitcases to pack belongings and protect breakables.

  • Provide Your Own Materials: Source free packing materials from friends and family, or reuse boxes and bubble wrap from a previous move.

  • Schedule Strategically: Book your move well in advance. Rates are often lower if you schedule your move on a weekday during the off-season, which typically runs from October through April.

  • Compare Quotes: Get moving quotes from at least three professional movers in your area. This allows you to compare services and choose the best value.

  • Ask for Discounts: Inquire if the moving company offers any special coupons or deals.

  • Purchase Moving Insurance: Protect your investment by purchasing moving insurance, especially for expensive or antique belongings.

  • Divide the Labor: While you can save money by packing, it's wise to leave the more dangerous and physically demanding work—like loading, unloading, and moving heavy furniture—to the professionals.

To prepare furniture for moving, detach furniture legs if possible. If the legs must stay on, wrap them with foam wrap or taped blankets to help prevent damage. You can also buy dedicated moving “socks” for furniture legs.

Before hiring a moving company to help you with your move, there are a few things you will want to ask, including:

  • Is there anything your company won’t move?

  • Does workers’ compensation cover the crew?

  • Will you disassemble and reassemble the furniture?

  • Are there packing restrictions?

  • Can you guarantee my delivery date?

  • Can you provide references?

  • What do you charge extra for?

  • What is your cancellation policy?

It can be tempting to want to help your movers as they pack or transport your belongings, but in general, most movers prefer their customers to stay out of the way. Rest assured that your movers are confident in their skills and the process will likely go faster without your help. If you see something concerning, let your movers know right away so they can adjust or remedy the issue.
