"Before finding Douglas with On Deck Fencing and Landscaping, I spent 6 months attempting to get the project completed. I went through 5 other landscaping companies who could either not return phone calls, keep appointments, provide an estimate, or were simply not interested in doing xeriscape. Douglas responded the same day to my initial request for the project. Throughout the design and installation phases, he maintained communication and gave advance notice if there was a scheduling change or material substitute needed. After an initial in person consultation where he walked the property, he provided computer designed 3D models of his proposed landscape for our home. The models and overall design for the landscaping was outstanding. Once the design was approved, Douglas and On Deck Fence and Landscaping provided an estimate and timetable for the project. The project was completed within a week and ahead of schedule. The crew was polite and kept the work area clean and orderly while the project was going. I am completely satisfied with the work and service provided by On Deck. Douglas is a true professional and made the front of our home beautiful. Highly recommended!"

"I live up at the base of C-Hill, after the fire on C-Hill on Fourth of July, I decided it was time to do some maintenance. I saw Juan from Golden Lawn Care on NextDoor and I liked the way he did the maintenance from the pictures that were listed. I also went to home advisor and out of 19 reviews everyone of them were five stars, people absolutely love this man, said he was amazing, did great work and was reasonable and competitive with other people. I called and he came over that same day and gave me a quote after he walked the property. This morning he arrived at 8:30 and I do not know how he did what he did in one full day but I have never seen anybody work as fast He exceeded my expectations, and one of the nicest men you could ever meet, I definitely highly recommend him and he will now be my main lawn care person When he left, there was not one bit of dirt leaves, or any trash anywhere, my driveway was perfectly clean, he Thank you, Juan and your helper for such great work."

"I bought the Big Deal which was just for a single top coat to reseal the deck surface.  However, my deck was in a little bit worse shape than the deal allowed.  However, Ryan was awesome and added in sanding and then did the reseal for no additional charge.  The surface is not perfect but that is due to the rough pre-condition it was in and not his fault.  Shortly after the reseal the deck drains started leaking in to the garage below.  Ryan and crew came out again to fix the drain at no additional cost.  Again, this was not in the deal I bought but they provide such great customer service.  I would definitely use them again and will recommend them to friends and neighbors!

Deck Cleaning questions, answered by experts

The best material for your deck depends on several factors, including your budget, location, aesthetic preferences, and the level of maintenance you’re willing to do. Wood decking, like redwood, ipe, cedar, and pine, lasts the longest, but it’s more expensive and requires more upkeep than composite and synthetic decking.

Yes. Freestanding or floating decks are exactly what the name implies—structures with their own support beams. You can build a deck yourself and place it next to a house for the illusion of a connected deck without the hassle. Or you can construct it in a separate part of your yard for a dedicated outdoor entertainment space. For the purpose of removing a freestanding deck, the steps are the same as an attached deck, but you don’t have to cut the deck away from the home.

Floating decks are a cost-effective and versatile option, but they come with some compromises. Since they sit on smaller footings instead of being deeply anchored, they’re more likely to shift over time, especially in areas with heavy rainfall or freeze-thaw conditions. Their low-to-the-ground design makes them more susceptible to moisture buildup and potential water damage.

Cutting the boards directly is one of the fastest ways to remove deck boards with hidden fasteners. Mark two parallel lines that are one-third of the total measurement on both ends and cut out the centerpiece. Then, remove the end of the board that doesn’t have a fastener. Finally, pry open the fastened side and pull it up to pop out the screw or access the fastener. This also allows you to salvage portions of boards for other projects.

Yes, it’s definitely possible to build a pergola on an existing deck. All you need to do is attach the pergola support beams to the deck’s joists and build up from there. Beware that mistakes can damage your deck, so if you’re at all unsure of the process, play it safe and hire a pro for your custom build.
