"Wonderful. RockinA Electric completed our projects and needed upgrades in timely fashion. Samuel, employee and Lonnie, working boss, were professional, upfront and put Jim and I at ease. Very personable, informative and honest. A couple extra jobs requested were met with positive attitude. Jim and I completely recommend Rockin A Electric for your electrical needs. "I was really impressed with the level of service I received from Kirby Electric. Taryn was very responsive and helpful when my dryer all of a sudden quit working. He determined that when my solar panels were installed, the line for my dryer had been knocked out of the breaker, and he was able to resolve my issue quickly before it became an emergency . He also installed my bathroom lights and canned lighting in my kitchen, which I love! I would definitely recommend this company to others."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

Ceiling fans are very often worth the investment because they improve comfort in your living space and help reduce utility bills. In the late spring and early fall—and even in the summer in some areas—homeowners with ceiling fans can often get away with open windows and fans, which can cut down on cooling bills and also reduce wear and tear on the HVAC system. Over time, ceiling fans can pay for themselves by saving you money on electric bills and air conditioner repair and maintenance.

The direction you want your ceiling fan to move in depends on the season you’re in. During summer, you want it to move counterclockwise to produce a cooling downdraft. During winter, you want it to move clockwise to circulate warm air throughout the room.

Most ceiling fans have a lifespan of anywhere from five to 15 years or 10 years on average. Just how long your ceiling fan lasts depends on the quality of the parts, how much it’s used, and how well you maintain it. A fan with a weak motor that runs on the medium setting nonstop is likely to have a shorter lifespan compared to a fan with a powerful motor that runs on the slowest setting for air circulation.

Fan power is measured by CFM, or cubic feet per minute. For every 1,000 feet of square footage in your attic, you need a minimum of 700 CFM. Steeper roofs may need larger fans or about 840 CFM.  You can figure the size of attic fan you need by multiplying the square footage of your attic floor by 0.7. (multiply by 1.2 for a steep roof and 1.15 for a dark roof). That number is the CFM required for your fan to run efficiently.

The more surface area that a ceiling fan blade has, the more effective it will be at producing airflow. Therefore, a longer ceiling fan blade is the better option if you’re looking for more wind. However, a longer blade will consume more energy than a shorter blade.
