"I hired Annex Builders LLC to build a garage including the concrete slab. The work was done very professionally and quick. Once the garage was done, Annex Builders LLC replaced the roof on my house with propanel to match the garage. Today they finished painting the garage and the entire house, including all the trim and they even stained the wood porch. The entire project was done very efficiently and the job site was always clean. Thank you for getting this project done a few days earlier than projected!"

"I was really under the gun due to a prior Architectural firm not performing their duties per building plan codes. Not only were the plans incomplete but the City Plan Reviewer states(The Worst plans he’s ever seen) they will not make adjustments unless there is an additional charge for Thousands. Evaluation’s saved my clients and drew our project per code, along with Engineering in less time then they quoted. I highly recommended them, Especially Kirsten. You went above and beyond trying to coordinate this project. The staff was very professional and I will use them on all my projects. Sincerely, Frank B BCM Builders"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Taos, homeowners are often involved in decisions about preserving adobe features, choosing visible or concealed vigas, and selecting materials that match the area’s historic style. Your input is also needed on insulation options for temperature swings, integrating passive solar design, and scheduling work around seasonal weather. If your property is in a historic district, your approval is vital for compliance and design choices.

Helpful?

In Taos, signs like erosion at the base of adobe walls, diagonal or widening cracks, and moisture stains often point to underlying structural issues. Watch for roof sagging after heavy snow or viga beams showing rot, as these can escalate quickly. Addressing these early is critical, since Taos’s freeze-thaw cycles and high-desert climate can turn minor foundation or framing problems into major repairs.

Helpful?

In Taos, act immediately if you notice water intrusion in adobe walls, structural movement, or hazards from snow and wind. Schedule major repairs for spring or summer when weather is stable, but monitor any issues that could worsen with freeze-thaw cycles. Cosmetic updates can wait, but consult a local structural engineer if you’re unsure—prompt action protects your home’s safety and long-term value.

Helpful?

Before starting a structural engineering project in Taos, first confirm if your property is in a historic district and review local requirements. Assess your site’s soil and drainage, and consider snow loads due to elevation. Plan construction outside winter months, and select a contractor experienced with adobe and foundation repair. Early coordination with your structural engineer and clear documentation help prevent unexpected delays.

Helpful?

For structural engineering in Taos, knowing if your property uses adobe construction or features vigas is essential. Details like wall thickness, foundation type, and any previous structural repairs provide crucial insights. Local soil stability, elevation for snow load calculations, and whether your home is in a historic district all influence engineering decisions. Sharing these specifics helps your structural engineer design solutions tailored to Taos’s unique conditions.
