"I am extremely disappointed with the quality of work and customer service from Materson Painting. Travis and co-worker Johnny, assured me that the job would be done properly, but the stucco painting was incredibly messy, with paint drops left all over my driveway, sidewalks, outlets, and even the wrought iron trim. They had promised to clean everything up, but that never happened despite my repeated requests. In addition, the cracks they ?repaired? have already reappeared?less than six months later?and the larger ones need to be fixed again. I chose this company partly because they offered a warranty and I do have a three year one but it has proven to be worthless and they have not returned to address any of these issues, no matter how many times I?ve reached out and with promises made to return and fix them. Never happened. Travis did schedule a clean up date made three months later because he was too busy to come out and he would loose money doing these kind of call backs"

Plaster Repair questions, answered by experts

Smaller is better when patching holes with spackle. Any holes wider than four to six inches in diameter tend to be too wide to repair with spackle alone. You'll likely want to patch bigger holes with a drywall panel. 

Even holes measuring up to 6 inches may be challenging to fill with spackle alone. For best results, purchase a wall repair patch made from wire mesh. Cut the patch to fit over the hole, then use the spackle to hold it in place. Apply the spackle over the patch as you would for a smaller hole.

Plaster is a beautiful finish but is labor-intensive to install and remove. It’s vulnerable to cracking and more sensitive to moisture variance than drywall. Installing plaster on a new wall is an expensive process that can take days to weeks, depending on the scope. Removing a plaster wall can also be quite expensive and time-consuming.

Technically speaking, you can use drywall primer over plasters. However, oil-based primers work the most effectively on wall plasters. Meanwhile, water-based primers work just as well with drywalls. Nowadays, there are also universal primers suitable for drywall and plaster. Overall, you will be fine as long as you are using a trustworthy brand.

It’s not a good idea to plaster over broken plaster (unless by broken you’re referring to cracked, in which case that’s perfectly fine). However, broken plaster can be a sign of a larger underlying issue like foundation damage or severe damage to the lath holding up the plaster, so it’s worth investigating before you simply plaster on top of the damage.

You can drywall over plaster, but there are some things to consider. First, installing drywall over plaster will increase the wall’s thickness. This could create challenges for window and door frames that no longer fit the wall’s thickness. You may also have to adjust power outlets so they are accessible. When done right, drywall can create a smooth, flat appearance, but it’s best when handled by professionals.
