"I hired Lorenzo to repair cracks and stucco around half of my home. He took a week to complete this and initially appeared to do a good job. However, several voids in the stucco appeared after a few months. Lorenzo and his son claimed their work was perfect and the voids were due to "stains by pollen". No amount of cleaning has removed the "stains", so their claim is wrong. They have refused to repair the spotty stucco coverage. I DO NOT recommend Casitas Plaster Company!"

If the water damage is small, such as small patches, you can paint over the area. To prevent mold growth, roll on a coat of an antifungal primer beforehand painting. However, if the damage is more extensive, you may have mold, and the plaster will be compromised. You’ll have to replace the plasterboard.

It’s not a good idea to plaster over broken plaster (unless by broken you’re referring to cracked, in which case that’s perfectly fine). You can repair plaster ceilings yourself after the cause of the ceiling damage has been addressed. If you do decide to flex your DIY muscle, have a helper to help hold the ladder and pass you the tools for safety purposes.

Only use spackle on plaster walls when the imperfection is small. It’s best used for nail holes or small dings in the plaster. Spackle dries quickly, allowing you to continue the repair process shortly after using it. Plaster can be tricky to repair, though, so if you run into issues, call a pro so that you don’t risk further damage.
