"We first hired The Knights painting about three years ago to paint the interior of our house. They did a fantastic job. Gary and the crew were professional, polite, and very neat. We love the job they did, which was completed in a timely manner, and the price was very reasonable. When our house needed to be restucco'ed and painted, The Knights Painting was one of the first companies we contacted. Gary's quote was the best, and they started the job within two weeks. So far, they have done great work. They fixed a few pretty bad places, patched the stucco, and they have been meticulous with the taping-off of the windows and doors for the painting. I trust the exterior painting will be as wonderful as the interior paint job was. I highly recommend The Knights Painting. They have two great jobs for us, and we are very happy and satisfied with their work!"

Painting questions, answered by experts

Exterior paints contain more volatile organic compounds, or VOCs, making them dangerous when used indoors. Without the free ventilation of the great outdoors, it can take longer for the fumes to dissipate than interior paint. While you may notice the smell lessening more quickly, you should be wary of paint fumes inside for 48 to 72 hours after it dries.

If you want to achieve a deeper, darker stain color, wait 5 to 10 minutes before wiping it off. However, wipe it off faster for a lighter tone. When wiping off the stain during this part of the process, be sure to work in the direction of the wood’s grain for best results.

Opt for an interior wood stain that is rated for your type of wood. Consider your personal style preferences as well as the overall use of the room when choosing a color. Remember, the color you see at the store may look different on your actual floors once applied. This is why if you have the chance, it’s helpful to test a few options on a scrap piece of wood in the room first. Once you narrow it down, you can test a small patch on an inconspicuous area in the room to see it on the actual floors.

A properly applied coat of stain will last between 3 and 8 years, depending on your climate. If you live in a place where your fence experiences a lot of moisture or high heat, your stain will last for a shorter period than in more temperate conditions. We recommend reapplying stain every 3 to 5 years to keep your wood in good condition.

Wood stain is not flammable after it dries. The solvent in wood stain is what causes the liquid form to be highly flammable, but the stain drying process involves the solvents dissolving, which leaves behind a non-flammable product on your wood project. Wood stain is, however, flammable before you apply it, so you should always store partially full cans and used wood stain rags away from sources of heat and open flames.
