"Arrived on time, and repaired the leaking pipe under my kitchen sink. He's personable, and easy to talk to. Randy didn't talk down to me, he explained everything that was wrong and what needed to be done to fix it. When he was finished he made sure all areas around where he worked was cleaned up before he left. When I have more plumbing problems I will be calling Randy again, I highly recommend him!!!"

"Mr. Wilson arrived right on time and got to work right away. I already knew the wax ring needed to be replaced. Mr. Wilson promptly diagnosed a leak in the toilet tank water supply line and replaced the line. Everything is in perfect working order now. Better than new. I will definitely use Wilson Waterworks again for any future plumbing work.

"On Monday 6/8/15 I had experienced a leak in my yard that required the City to shut off my water supply to my house.  I called Kevin and he was able to respond on Tuesday and took care of the leak right away.  I called several other Angie's List plumbers and a couple said that they could not respond for a couple of weeks!  That was unaccecptable since I needed a repair that day.  One plumber said that they would charge $200 just to locate the leak and provide an estimate.  Another company said that the pipes in the neighborhood were old and was making estimates over the phone without even coming to my home.  KSM's total bill came to $170 and was very reasonable.  I will definatly use KSM again and will recomend them to my family, friends and neighbors.

"Not so great. Although I had no obvious leak, my water meter was spinning like mad so I had the City turn it off on a Wednesday evening. On Thursday TLC said they'd come out with equipment to locate the leak. I waited all day and around 4pm someone came. Based on no house leaks, we assumed the problem was between the meter and the house in the back yard. After an hour and a half he had not located the leak but he thought he had the general area, just off the water meter. Turns out he didn't. At least I didn't get charged for this (at least I don't think I did - more about that). That Friday Manuel came in the morning to start digging. After a few hours he confirmed that the leak is nowhere near where TLC thought. This after I spent the evening before yanking out a big chunk of my winter jasmine to provide easier access for digging. Manuel found no break near the water meter and kept on digging. Finally he found that my galvanized iron water main had indeed rotted out. TLC couldn't get a crew on-site that afternoon which meant a weekend without water. I ended up asking for and paying for Manuel to put in a temporary water line so my water could be turned back on. That was about $525.00. The cost for the replacement line was to be another $3,800 and we discussed where the line would go. I was going to be out of town when they did the work, so I wanted to know what to expect. When I got home the following Tuesday evening, the work was done but the landscaping was a mess. It turns out that they used a completely different route for the trench, which involved tearing up a large section of my vegetation. The water turn off value was in a completely different location. I was not particularly happy but I did have water. Except, it turned out, in my drip irrigation system. I have a 2 zone system and 1 zone was working the other not. I called Manuel and told him the problem. After a day and a half and $570 more dollars, TLC replaced what they identified as a single bad solenoid. I think I paid $570 for them to drive around town to find the right kind. It's also possible that the charge for the sonar leak locator was wrapped into this cost. Then, I just realized today that TLC then managed to switch the two zones, which means I've been running the wrong water schedules for the last month. Advice: do not let them near your irrigation system."

"Alvin arrived in very short order (before the city could shut the water off) after the initial call. He found a leak on 1/2 galvanized pipe leading to an exterior hose bib, which directly teed off from the main supply (no local shut off). The tee was capped off, hole was filled with silicon and an additional quote was provided to replumb and replace with a frost free hose bib at $350. "Regular" cost was $375, Angie's list "discount" was $225. Overall satisfied and would call again."

"Wright Flow saved me thousands of dollars when multiple local big time companies wanted to over charge me and wanted me to replace thee entire unit with a long time frame for fix. Wright Flow came in, analyzed and fixed the issue less than a couple of hours compared to days/weeks on top of a low cost compared to other companies. Wright Flow knows the job at hand and does so with integrity. I would recommend Wright Flow if need be for others seeking the best customer service and reliability out there."

Basement Leak Repair questions, answered by experts

You can DIY basement waterproofing in some ways to help save on the overall costs. If your basement isn’t experiencing a lot of water but is noticeably humid, you can try running a dehumidifier that will pull the excess water out of the air. If you notice water leaking due to outdoor drainage issues, you can add downspout extensions to keep rainwater away from your home.

However, if the problem is more severe and requires a more extensive solution, it’s best to call a basement waterproofing professional to assess the treatment you need and install waterproofing safeguards properly. Since keeping water out of your basement is important, ensuring this job is done correctly the first time is best.

To determine if your basement walls are suitable for finishing, assess their structural integrity and moisture conditions. Look for any signs of damage, such as cracks, bowing, or excessive moisture. Ensure proper drainage and address any underlying issues before proceeding.

Consult with a professional if you're uncertain about the structural stability or potential risks associated with finishing your basement walls.

Heavy rain can affect a leach field because the extra rain can cause the groundwater level to rise. This leads the soil around the leach field to become saturated with rainwater, so it’s no longer able to take in effluent from the leach lines for final treatment. Heavy rainfall can cause the leach field to flood.

When considering finishing your basement, take into account a few pros and cons:

Pros

  • Can increase the value of your home

  • Separate space from the rest of the house

  • Customize and personalize the basement to suit your needs and style

  • Increase the amount of living space in your home

Cons

  • May not regain enough value to cover the cost of finishing

  • Lack of natural light if it’s below ground level

  • Moisture or flooding can cause costly damage

  • Installing plumbing and electrical can be messy and costly

There are several small, inexpensive upgrades you can make to upgrade your basement. Although you still need to adhere to building codes and obtain permits when necessary, you can complete small but mighty tasks like painting the masonry walls and installing entertainment devices to make the space more usable.
