"We needed someone to install tile around the bathtub at an apartment unit we own. Joey at 2 Daughters Handyman came to the rescue. He quoted us a fair price based on what we could see. However, once he started the work other complications were discovered such as mold behind the existing wall. Joey and his crew were able to take care of each issue and charged us a fair amount for the extra work performed. We were very impressed with his willingness to get the job done in a timely manner. He even went to two or three places on his own to find the tile we wanted. We will definitely use 2 Daughters again and would recommend them to anyone needing his services.

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Frequently, fungi have a gray color with a powdery or fuzzy texture on a wall. In showers, fungi and mildew may resemble a pink slime. Meanwhile, toxic mold may resemble a fuzzy growth on walls that’s often black or green in color. Some toxic black mold will have specks of orange or white on it. However, not all dark-colored mold you find on a wall is toxic. An infestation of toxic mold often will spread faster than fungi on walls. If you are unsure whether you have toxic mold, reach out to a professional for help.

No—there are key things that help you determine if it’s mold versus mildew. Mildew is a specific type of mold. Both can trigger allergies, asthma, and respiratory symptoms, though mold is typically more severe than mildew.

Yes, brown spots on a ceiling are usually caused by water leaks and can lead to mold growth, especially if you don’t correct the underlying problem. Ongoing water leaks and moisture issues will almost always result in mold growth, especially if you live in a warm climate. Mold is a health hazard, so get the root problem fixed quickly, clean it, and encapsulate the area to avoid mold formation.

When used in the correct quantity and with the right procedures, boric acid will produce fumes with limited to no toxicity. You’re more likely to experience adverse side effects from boric acid toxicity by accidentally ingesting it or touching it with bare skin. All the same, wearing an air-filtering mask is a good way to keep even minorly toxic fumes out of your system. Don’t forget gloves, too!

You might be wondering, “Is laminate flooring toxic?” The product does contain formaldehyde, which is found in the resins used to bind the wood fibers together. But the chance of overexposure and adverse reactions, such as allergy- or asthma-like symptoms, is low unless you are exposed to formaldehyde in other places, i.e., if you work with formaldehyde regularly outside the home. Keep in mind, too, that many household products have the potential to pose a health hazard, such as cleaning products.
