"James and his entire team are exceptional landscapers. Everything was perfect and done right on time. James is very professional, an excellent communicator and a true gentleman. His prices are reasonable and he held to his estimate. We loved Mirissa, too! A very hardworking crew! I highly recommend A&J Landscaping for all your lawn needs."

Small jobs welcome

"Did a great job on my fence. Put it up fast and did it right. Said he would be back on Sunday to give an estimate on yard work and to pick up old fence. That's the last I heard from him. Got someone else to take old fence and am looking for someone to do yard. Highly recommend their work, just not pleased with follow-up."

"This company was very professional. The work that was done is amazing. The project was completed in a timely manner. Everything that I wanted done was done right. They even cleaned up after themselves. The piece of property that I needed cleaned up had weeds that were peeking over a 6ft fence. It would have been impossible for me to accomplish this project. I cannot stress enough how hard this company worked. The owner was polite and friendly. He came out to personally make sure I was pleased with the work."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

If you live in an area with heavy rain or you like the idea of an extra layer of cushion under your feet, you may want to consider adding additional layers under your grass. There are pads that are purely for comfort and ones that can help accelerate drainage for those heavy rains.

You should plant trees at least 15 to 20 feet away from your house, and more if the tree will grow large and spread its limbs. Trees pose several dangers to houses when planted too close. They can litter the roof with leaves and branches, create fire hazards, make a ladder for larger pests, and even damage the foundation as their roots grow.

It’s usually best to buy plants from a local greenhouse or nursery yourself, but landscapers are also a reliable option. First, you can choose exactly what plants you want based on their appearance rather than relying on your landscaper to choose. Additionally, while it’s more time-consuming to go buy the plants yourself, you’ll often save money because landscapers charge for delivery and may upcharge the plants. You can also speak to a professional at a nursery to ensure you understand how to care for your plants and get the most long-term value.

When planting, it's best to leave several feet between a house and a juniper bush. Many juniper varieties will become quite bushy and require space to grow. Juniper branches that come into contact with siding can damage the home's exterior over time. Also, some juniper bushes have aggressive roots that can put pressure on a home's foundation or basement walls.

The best landscaping for a septic drain field is shallow-rooted grass or native vegetation that helps prevent soil erosion while allowing water to evaporate efficiently. Avoid planting trees, shrubs, or deep-rooted plants near the drain field because the roots can infiltrate pipes and cause blockages. Using mulch or gravel sparingly can also help retain moisture and protect the system without restricting airflow.
