"We needed someone to install tile around the bathtub at an apartment unit we own. Joey at 2 Daughters Handyman came to the rescue. He quoted us a fair price based on what we could see. However, once he started the work other complications were discovered such as mold behind the existing wall. Joey and his crew were able to take care of each issue and charged us a fair amount for the extra work performed. We were very impressed with his willingness to get the job done in a timely manner. He even went to two or three places on his own to find the tile we wanted. We will definitely use 2 Daughters again and would recommend them to anyone needing his services.

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

Many caulk alternatives are safe for use in kitchens and food preparation areas, provided you apply them correctly and let them cure for the right amount of time. If you’re unsure about this step, call in a pro to do it for you. Silicone putty and caulk strips are often used around sinks and countertops due to their waterproof and flexible nature. Always choose products labeled as safe for kitchen use and follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper application and curing.

Mold can grow quickly in wet carpet: in as little as 12 to 24 hours. That’s why it is crucial to take action immediately if there’s any sign of water damage under your floor. Remove as much water as possible with a shop vac and towels, then use baking soda to help remove moisture deep in the fibers. Always steam clean the carpet or use an antibacterial carpet sanitizer to kill any mold growth.

Mold can grow anywhere in a home where moisture accumulates and doesn't dry out, particularly in areas with poor ventilation. Common materials affected include insulation and drywall. The most frequent locations for mold growth are attics, basements, crawl spaces, wall cavities, bathroom and kitchen walls, exposed foundations, windows and window sills, air conditioning and heating vents, and around fireplaces and chimneys.

Just because you find mold in your home does not mean you need to pursue professional remediation services. You can often clean small amounts of surface mold, such as in bathrooms or on windowsills, using household products. However, extensive mold growth, persistent odors, or mold caused by water damage require professional remediation. A good rule of thumb is to hire a pro when the mold is in an area larger than 10 square feet, poses health risks, or affects the structural integrity of your home.

If you see mold spores on walls, flooring, or ceilings, it’s best to call in a mold inspection pro to investigate. Similarly, if you smell signs of mold—musty, earthy, rotting wood, or stale scents—it’s time to call a mold inspection professional.

Other less-obvious times when you should have your home inspected for mold include:

  • After flooding

  • After home water damage

  • Having ceiling or wall damage

  • Buying or selling a home

  • After a persistent unexplained cough or allergy symptoms

  • Noticing discolored surfaces
