"I recently had the pleasure of working with Erik from First State Ponds, and I can't recommend him enough. Erik traveled all the way from Delaware to Maryland to service my pond, which was having persistent issues with murky water. Before connecting with Erik, I had already been advised by another company to purchase a specific filter and pump. Thankfully, I found First State Ponds just in time. Erik took the time to explain that while the recommended filter might clear my water, it would require constant maintenance. He suggested a different filter and a stronger pump, but he was also willing to install the one I had already purchased if I preferred. After some consideration, I decided to take his advice and returned the original filter to have him install his recommended system. After struggling with murky water all summer, l admit, I was a bit skeptical. I wasn't sure that anything would truly work. But Erik's recommendation exceeded even his own predictions. Helped me figure out a design that worked well with my property and helped with coordinating the brick colors between my walls, fire pit and patio. Considering the amount of work that had to be done, the price was reasonable. Even came back a few times to help with some minor tweaks I needed to make with my lighting and didn't charge extra for those last minute cosmetic changes I decide to make. Used this company prior to my patio to install a fence on about 1/4 acre of property, design and install landscaping around most of property as it was new construction and I didn't even have grass. Here again, bent over backwards to accommodate me changing my mind 1/2 dozen times on the layout and the variety of shrubs, grasses, etc that I was picking out. This work was performed in 2014 and 2015."

Small ponds can be drained and filled in about a day. Larger ponds will take two or three days for professional removal.

When deep cleaning your koi pond, transfer fish to a clean, uncontaminated container at least one foot deep, like a large bucket, tub, or kiddie pond. Fill the container with their existing pond water to avoid shocking them, and place the container in full or partial shade. When it’s time to reintroduce them into the pond, slowly add the new water to the container before adding the fish and container water back into the pond.

Algae growth is a common issue for misters, but you can do several things to prevent it. First, use a sealed water tank with distilled or filtered water to fuel your misters. Second, blow out the misters after every use so no water is left in the tubing. Third, thoroughly clean the misting system every several weeks of use at minimum during the warmest months. Third, wherever possible positioning tubing and the water tank away from direct sunlight and in the coolest areas possible.

In addition to length and width, pond liners also come in various thickness levels. Thickness is measured in mils, a unit of measurement equal to one-thousandth of an inch, with most pond liners ranging from 15 to 60 mils in thickness. The smaller the number, the thinner (and weaker) the liner. To prevent rips and tears, it’s best to choose a pond liner that’s at least 30 mils thick.
