"They came on time, explained what was to be done (I had met with their arborist prior to this -- so it was confirmation of the excavation, removal and planting), they worked very hard, took care to protect my lawn, cleaned everything up on my property and around the house -- all in record time. By 2:30 pm, I had five large trees that gave me the privacy and beauty I had been dreaming of in my backyard. The next day I put in plantings and it looks like everything has been there for years. It was one of the few projects around my house that turned out better than I even imagined. We had uses Friendly Tree for trimming and removal of trees -- now that I know they plant trees as well, they will be my go to resource for all my tree needs."

"The workmen showed up on time, were friendly, and did a great job removing my trees and cleaning up. Their fee was a very good price. I would recommend them and will use them again for other landscaping projects."

"Judith came onsite to survey the trees we wanted trimmed; she provided a firm estimate for our review; and upon agreement to go ahead with the work -- two days later the Nature Services team of four workers got to work to get the trees trimmed. They took care of surrounding plants; branches and trimmings were mulched; and areas cleaned from debris. They were prompt, efficient, quick, and very professional. Will recommend to family and friends."

"This company is easy to work with. They are very professional and respond quickly to requests for quotes. Though I have used this company in the past and was pleased with the work - I still showed due diligence and obtained other quotes from other companies for the same job. Sage price is industry standard - falling right in the middle of my highest and lowest quotes. The tipping point in my decision was that I trust the expertise of Sage when it comes to tree service. The company - from office to field staff, are top notch. I'm pleased with the quality of the work performed and the clean-up by the crew.

"SavATree provided a free estimate and some advice on other trees and shrubbery in my yard. They came on time, worked in an efficient manner, accommodated my working in the yard at the same time, and cleaned up afterwards. I would definitely recommend their service. Ed B."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Tree roots are hearty and complex systems, so they don’t die immediately after the rest of the tree is removed. If you leave the root system in place, it takes anywhere from two to seven years for it to run out of nutrients. It is worth noting, however, that the roots stop growing and expanding after cutting down the rest of the tree.

When a palm tree no longer produces new fronds and old fronds start turning yellow-brown, that’s a sign the tree is dying. However, transplanted palm trees can show these signs for the first several months as they re-establish themselves. It’s best to keep watering and not give up on the palm tree until a couple of seasons have passed and you’re sure it’s not coming back to life.

Generally, you’ll want to avoid pruning more than 25% of the tree’s canopy at one time. While pruning your tree is important, it’s possible to do it too often or to go too far. Again, this is why hiring a tree trimming pro to do the work is wise. However, if you do decide to DIY, going slow and trimming gradually is the name of the game.

If tree branches cross well into your property line, in many cases, these branches become part of your property, and you can trim them up until your neighbor’s property line. However, this issue will vary based on local ordinances, so you should do your research before making any decisions. Better yet, speak with your neighbor about how to handle any tree issues.

If you don’t mind the branches, you can leave them be, but if they’re becoming a hazard, it’s definitely worth having a conversation.

Aside from removing dead or diseased branches, you should prune your trees somewhere between every one and three years. Some people—particularly commercial farmers—prune their apple trees yearly to produce higher yields. This is the best way to promote tree health. That said, the average homeowner can get away with hard-pruning their mature apple tree every other year or every three years.
