"I found Blase to be amiable, courteous, attentive and sincere when he gave me an estimate for the services needed. He took the time to explain things to me and to answer all of my questions. On the day of installation, both he and Pat treated me and my home with respect. After I had approved the work and they left, I discovered a small defect in the toilet seat. Blase came back first thing the very next morning to replace it with another new one."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

Toilet handles can get stuck for a couple of reasons, but it’s commonly an issue with the chain. Remove the lid and check the chain’s connection, running from the flapper to the handle arm. Sometimes the chain gets snagged on or against another part of the tank.

The chain might not have the right tension. For example, a chain that’s too short can make the handle feel stuck. Check that there’s some slack in the chain. Old, worn-out flappers can get stuck, too. In this case, you’ll need to see which size toilet flapper you need.

Tools include pipe wrenches, plungers, and augers. Professionals use advanced equipment for complex issues.

To test for toilet leaks, use water coloring in the water tank and see if the water slips into the bowl from the tank. This test will indicate if there’s a problem with the flapper or refill tube. You can also put water coloring in the bowl of the toilet to see if there is a leak there. If there is, you should see the colored water on the outside of the toilet bowl or on the floor.

This rumbling noise after flushing may sound like a hammer or knocking inside the walls. When you flush, it opens a valve so additional water can come in. However, if the valve malfunctions, then this rush of water has nowhere to go, which makes all the excess water hit your pipes and create a loud hammering sound.

Toilet seats have two mounting brackets on the back that accept mounting bolts. The bolts drop through the brackets, through two small holes on the top of your toilet, and then receive nuts to hold them in place on the bottom of the toilet. If you can’t see the bolt heads, you might need to pry up the mounting bracket cover, which is a plastic piece that hides and protects the bolts.
