"It couldn't have gone smoother. We called on a Monday and he came on a Wednesday right on time. He quoted the price in advance so I knew how much money to have on hand. The price he charged was the same as the price he quoted. He arrived on time, looked at the job, brought inn his tools, installed the toilet, carried out the old one and put it in his truck, cleaned everything up and was gone. All this within an hour. I would definitely all him for any plumbing job we needed done and recommend him to our family and friends."

"Angi, FixAll had to postpone one appointment but when they came they were knowledgeable and efficient. They fixed my running toilet with a unit that uses less water but is still just as functional. I did not get any other estimates. Thank you for this referral."

"I found Blase to be amiable, courteous, attentive and sincere when he gave me an estimate for the services needed. He took the time to explain things to me and to answer all of my questions. On the day of installation, both he and Pat treated me and my home with respect. After I had approved the work and they left, I discovered a small defect in the toilet seat. Blase came back first thing the very next morning to replace it with another new one."

Toilets questions, answered by experts

A standard toilet flange should fit snugly into the outflow pipe and sit level with the subfloor. Installing a new one without first removing the old one will make it impossible to form a seal and keep the toilet bowl bolted securely in place.

However, if you’re dealing with leakage or wobbling because you’ve installed a new type of bathroom tile (making the floor taller), you may be able to avoid fully replacing the flange by opting for a toilet flange extender. Extenders typically come in kits for easy DIY installation, fit over the existing flange, and bring the drain connection higher.

Yes, a toilet, sink, and shower can share the same vent. This is a common plumbing practice that can simplify installation and save space. When sharing a vent, it's important that the toilet is located downstream from all other fixtures. You will also need to ensure the vent pipe is large enough to handle the demands of all connected fixtures without compromising its effectiveness. Because requirements can vary, you should always check your local building and plumbing codes. Consulting a qualified plumber is recommended to ensure the vent is properly sized, installed, and adheres to all local regulations.

The water in your toilet tank refills after each flush. So if you see dirty water in the bowl, you should check the tank to see if it’s coming from there. A dirty toilet tank can be the result of sediment in the water itself—-after all, the water will sit in the tank between flushes and can cause the interior to change into a dingy color. Faulty toilet components, like an old flapper, corroded tank lever or chain, or damaged seals, can also lead to dirty water as the materials break down inside the tank. You can clean the toilet tank or change out the old parts to give it a fresh start.

Most toilets have a 12-inch rough-in or hole, but some have 10- or 14-inch holes, which means that not all toilets fit all setups. Knowing how to measure the rough-in is essential, so you purchase a toilet that fits the existing drain hole. It can be costly to have the rough-in moved, and most stores don’t accept toilet returns.

You can DIY your toilet flapper replacement if you’re up for a small plumbing project. Turn off the water to the toilet, open the tank lid, remove the chain from the lever, and unhook the flapper. For a new, adjustable flapper, adjust it to the right setting according to your toilet's gallons per flush rating. Hook the flapper in place and install the chain with 1/2 inch of slack.
