"We use Laury for repair and maintenance of our heating and cooling units for our rental properties and each time we need something done, the staff at Laury never cease to provide quality service. The technicians are always knowledgeable, thorough, courteous and pleasant. We recently had an HVAC system installed in one of our units and the home is rather large and is over 100 years old and there was not a whole lot of empty space to work with. The guys at Laury were able to install the system and all of the duct work and components involved neatly with the age and make-up of the home in-mind. They were pleasant throughout the entire installation which took almost a week. They were always on time and always communicated the process with us. Laury is a trusted business with many years of experience behind them. Prices are also extremely reasonable given the cost of services right now. Warren you are the man!"

"Climate Mechanics worked hard to make sure we had both systems replaced on the same day and before the summer heat started. Nathan provided excellent service and communication throughout the whole process, from the first visit through the install. We are very happy with our systems and are confident knowing we are working with a local company that will be there for the service and maintenance of the units."

"After buying a new refrigerator, Home Depot told me I needed a plumber to run a new water line to the refrigerator. I was not happy with the Home Depot tech that called me. The plumber, Dave, arrived soon after I called Harris and did a phenomenal job! He was friendly, professional and worked quickly. Thank you, Dave, and Harris Plumbing!!"

"We had an excellent experience working with Hutchinson. We called Hutchinson for an estimate to replace our water heater after Lowes gave us the run-around and an expensive quote that included unnecessary parts. A Hutchinson sales rep (Joe) came out the next day. He was on time (to the minute), well versed in water heaters, boilers and AC units, and very knowledgeable about the equipment that Hutchinson offered and the Energy Star programs offered by the state of NJ. He was informative and not pushy. We mentioned that we were also interested in replacing our boiler in the next few years and Joe gave us information about simply replacing the water heater + about replacing the water heater and boiler at the same time thru the NJ Energy Star Program (an expensive upfront cost but well worth it in the long term). We went with the Energy Star program, which included air sealing our house, installing extra instillation in the attic and basement, a 95% efficient boiler with a water heater attached. With the program, Hutchinson takes care of all labor and includes a 2 year service contract the includes all parts and labor. It was about 18,000, but we qualified for a $5,000 immediate rebate from the State of NJ, which knocked the cost down to $13,000 for us. Still very expensive, but the State of NJ is offering a 10 year inerest free loan thru the program. On average, people save $83 a month on their gas bills when installing this equipment, which is actually the monthly payment amount for the loan (on purpose). Therefore, (in the long term) this equipment will actually only cost us $3,000 in total.
Hutchinson was on time for instillation. We were under the impression that the project would take 1 day, but it quickly turned into 3 days, which was a slight inconvenience but glad the job was done correctly. Cleaned up after the job 100%. Everyone that we worked with at Hutchinson was friendly, respectfull, courtious, and knowledge."

Install Boiler FAQs, answered by experts

Hydronic and standard electric baseboard heaters differ in how they operate, their cost, and their performance. Standard convection heaters use electric coils to heat the air directly, while hydronic heaters warm a contained liquid like water or oil, which then radiates heat into the room.

In terms of cost and efficiency, hydronic heaters usually have a higher upfront price but are more energy-efficient and cheaper to run over time. This is because the heated liquid retains warmth, allowing the heater to continue providing heat for a while after the thermostat turns it off. In contrast, electric heaters provide heat more quickly but are less efficient.

Ultimately, the better choice depends on your priorities. If you need a room to heat up fast and have a lower initial budget, an electric heater might be suitable. If long-term energy savings are more important and you don't mind a slower heat-up time, a hydronic heater is likely the better option.

Depending on the size of your home and system, as well as any upgrades or add-ons you choose, it may take between three and five days to completely replace an existing HVAC system from start to finish. Your contractor should be able to give you an estimate before they begin the actual replacement.

Costs range from $3,000 to $7,500, depending on system size and efficiency.

Most home boilers will need an expansion tank. That’s because these boilers are closed-loop systems, where the water is trapped. An expansion tank is needed when the boiler heats the water and it expands, allowing air to condense in the tank to make room for the water. Other types of boilers don’t use an expansion tank, such as traditional steam boilers, but these aren’t as common. And hot water tanks may be able to use a pressure release valve instead. When in doubt, call in a pro to take a look.

When winter rolls around, and you turn the heat on for the first time in a year, it’s normal to sense a light odor. This could smell a little like burning because some dust has gathered in the heating unit over the warm months and will fade away shortly after. However, there are some smells you should watch out for and take caution around: an egg-like sulfur smell or an electrical burn odor would indicate there’s something wrong. Turn it off and call a professional for maintenance as soon as possible.
