"Mike is not only a professional and a pro at his expertise, he is also compassionate. Bathtub was not draining, we got all kinds of quotes and plans that can be done including breaking the wall but not closing the wall. I got in touch with Mike through a work referral. Mike not only picked up the phone, he listened to my issue and made himself to come out the same day. He was not only early but, was able to assess and solve the issue at a super reasonable cost. Mike is now my lifetime go to for drain issues. Thanks Mike!"

"Alec was professional and explained what needed to be done to clear the lavatory drain with an electric snake. He installed new angle stop for lavatory. He supplied and installed two supply lines for the faucet. The old valves were rusty and did not work like they used to. Alec said the old valves could leak in the future, and we did not want that to happen. They arrived on time and continued working until the job was complete."

"They encountered a problem that did not respond to the standard treatment, so they had to work longer, "figure it out", and bring in other equipment. They did, and they refused to charge me any more than their standard price for drain clearing. Outstanding service."

"Erik came on time. I appreciated that before starting he reviewed the quote with me, so that I knew upfront how much I was going to pay, My problem was a clogged kitchen sink drain. Erik managed to fix the issue even though the clog was quite far in the pipe. I would hire him again."

"We had a clogged kitchen sink, so I searched for plumbers on Angi.com. I saw that RIch's Plumbing was highly rated, so I asked for a quote. Within a minute of requesting a quote, I got a call from Rich's. Just about 2 hours later, Rich the technician (not Rich the owner) was at the house. He assessed the problem and gave what I thought was a very fair estimate. He got to work right away, giving maximum effort to make sure the job was done well. He even gave us tips on how to keep the drain running smoothly in the future. He was friendly, courteous, efficient, and knowledgeable. I will definitely look to Rich's for future plumbing needs."

Drain Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Knowing the signs can alert you to a clogged drain line. Clogs cause slow drainage or cause no drainage (if there’s a complete blockage). You may also notice foul odors, gurgling noises, water backing up in other appliances on the same line, or a poorly flushing toilet. If you experience any of these issues and think your line might be clogged, call a plumber.

First, find the cleanout pipe in your yard. Unscrew the cap—you may need a wrench to do so. Then, get a drain snake. You can use a non-motorized one, but a motorized snake will make the job a little easier. Feed the snake through the pipe until it reaches the clog. Spin the snake continuously, but don’t try to feed it through the pipe anymore. Keep spinning until you feel it break the clog apart.

Boiling water helps unclog a drain, but usually only with a harder abrasive such as baking soda or vinegar. On its own, it isn’t the most effective tool. In addition, you shouldn’t use boiling water if you have PVC pipes, as it can soften or melt them. Use a plunger or enlist the help of a pro if you have plastic pipes.

No. You should never pour old paint down a drain or sewer because it can clog pipes and pollute the environment. You must dispose of paint properly and safely. Different types of paint need to be disposed of in different ways—oil-based paints must be taken to a paint recycling center, while you can throw dried-out water- or latex-based paints in the garbage.

In some cases, operating a snake can damage your drain and pipes. This depends on the overall condition of your pipes and how gently you operate the auger. For instance, older galvanized pipes covered in zinc are susceptible to scratches when using a drain snake. Additionally, it’s common for newbies to apply too much force when extending the snake, leading to scratches and related damage. You can also crack the porcelain with an electric auger if you’re snaking a toilet drain. If you’re using a manual snake or auger, the risk is minimal.
