"Santos was very professional, personable, expedient and efficient. He explained why the carpet was buckling and explained what he would do to rectify it. He also ensured I checked the end results of his work. Santos cleaned up after his work by collecting the cuttings and vacuuming the carpet. I most definitely recommend him!"

"I had old wall-to-wall carpeting in my downstairs living room and hallway. I also had an awful parquet floor in my dining room (which was there when we moved in back in 1986). Underneath the parquet floor was plywood and the same wood floor that was in my living room. They weren't sure if they could save the underlying floor so they gave me a price to pull out the parquet floor and the plywood and refinish the underlying wood floor and another price to do a new installation on the floor. It turned out that the plywood was nailed to the underlying floor (lots and lots of nails) and the parquet floor was glued to the plywood, so I chose to have a new installation (I could have kept the old floor but it wouldn't have looked as nice with filled nail holes in it). It took them 3 days to do everything (pull out the old carpeting, sand and stain the existing floor in the living room and hallway, remove the parquet floor and the 2 layers of wood underneath it, install a new floor, sand and stain the new floor). They did some minor damage to my walls in the room with the parquet floor (some dings and cracked paint along the bottom of the wall by the floor), but the guy who painted my downstairs a few days prior to this work came back and fixed the walls, at no charge. I don't blame them for this since I knew it may happen while yanking out old wood and pounding in new wood, and my painter and I discussed it beforehand. When the painter came back to fix the walls, his first remark was "This floor is beautiful". I then had new carpeting installed on my stairs, and when the guy came to do it, he said the same thing. He even asked for Prestige's phone number so he could recommend them for hardwood floor work. Both my painter and the carpet installer were surprised when I told them that the dining room floor was new because the wood matched my living room wood exactly. You can't tell that one wood is from the 1960's and another is brand new.
They advertise dust-free sanding, and I don't recall there being a mess for me to clean up afterwards, so that wasn't an issue.
The guys who worked on my floors were pleasant and answered all my questions.
The only thing I wasn't prepared for was the noise  - pulling out the old floor and putting in a new one, and the sander. I put my 2 cats in the basement and when I went down there to check on them, the noise was intensified for some reason so I had to get them upstairs instead, where the bedroom carpeting softened the noise a bit.

"I chose them after finding them on Angie’s List. After contacting three or four other companies, they were the ones with the lowest price and offered the carpeting that was the most similar to what we had. The salesperson was very personable as well. The experience turned out okay.  It took about two weeks to have the work scheduled and they were able to complete the job in one day. What took me by surprise is that when they needed to cut the carpet to fit, they sprawled the carpet out on my driveway to do so. Part of my disappointment was how the salesperson who kept in good contact prior to the job did not come to look at it once it was completed. We previously had carpet down and assumed that it was flawless all the way through. When the salesperson came by, he did notice that there was an adjoined area. His installers did a pretty good job. There is one area where the seam is clearly noticeable. It was my intent to call the salesperson and have him come back and look at the work. However, I did not follow through.  Overall, I was just disappointed that the salesperson did not follow up and come take a look at the completed work."

Carpet Stretching questions, answered by experts

You can get away with stretching the carpet with some remaining items of furniture, so long as you have ready access to the parts of the carpet that require maintenance and you are not stretching through the furniture, as this leads to tears and fraying. Try to remove at least 50% of the furniture if you can’t remove it all.

In addition to having your carpets professionally cleaned, most carpet cleaners offer a range of supplemental services and treatments, including:

  • Patching and repairing holes: $100–$250 per hole

  • Carpet stretching to remove wrinkles: $60 per hour

  • Water extraction: $450–$2,000, depending on square footage

  • Pet stain and odor removal: $30–$50 per hour

  • Furniture and upholstery cleaning: $50–$80 per item

  • Furniture moving and removal: $10–$50 per item

  • Padding replacement: $4–$7 per square foot

  • Teflon treatment: $20–$40 per project

  • Environmentally friendly carpet cleaning: $100–$200 per room

Use baking soda and vinegar or shaving cream to fix your carpet stains. But if you prefer a quicker solution, rent a carpet shampooer and use an enzyme-based cleaner to treat and resolve your discolored carpet issue.

Bumps, wrinkles, or detachment often require stretching for smoothness.

There are a few carpet maintenance tips you’ll want to use to keep your carpet looking brand-new. Make sure you tackle stains immediately, and only use cleaners gentle enough for your carpet's specific fibers. You can even pop area rugs on top of wall-to-wall carpeting to change the look of your space and protect the carpet below.
