"Met with Mike from finest property maintenance to discuss some drainage & landscape ideas for my yard. Not only was he the best priced around but he was honest, he told me what he recommends and what I really didn't need. Talking with him he cut the fluff and extra sales pitch I felt with so many other companies and it really showed. Mike & his crew were dependable respectful of the property and neighbors and went above and beyond to make sure every single need on our list was met ! I highly recommend finest for any of your work, it's clear their knowledge spans across multiple trades and mike had some knowledge and recommendations for alot of my project!"

"United's estimate was lower than most of the half dozen I got for my >1,000 square ft yard (back & both sides) project. Marvin & crew delivered as promised and performed each step as stated (excavation, leveling, base & top layers of gravel, compacting, pavers & polymeric sand). Started & finished on time. While not on-site all the time, Marvin visited just about every day & always returned my calls promptly. He suggested a window well, which I hadn't considered & he was right. He met reasonable requests I made & covered all the bases. His crew was courteous, responsive, worked hard & cleaned up after completion. Marvin is a seasoned professional, is knowledgeable, was responsive and met all his commitments & deliverables. He seemed genuine & his communication was clear throughout. I am glad I chose United Corp, primarily because of Marvin & the work his crew performed. As far as the end result goes - so far, so good. After 3 weeks, I have no issues with the workmanship. Let's see if anything develops from here. My one disappointment is that a few of the pavers appear to be discolored. Marvin said I'd have to take it up with the supplier (pavers are Techo-Bloc). Naturally I'm not happy with this. In my opinion, if pavers appear to be blemished, they should not be used. Maybe if I wet-look seal it, it will no longer be an issue. Bottom line is I'm glad I chose United. Marvin was the face of United during my entire project & I'm glad he was. The price was competitive, the project was finished on-time & within budget, the quality of work is good & there were no surprises. While not an expert in the field, based on what little I know, I am satisfied & would hire Marvin & his crew again."

Excavating questions, answered by experts

Your contractor should handle dust control during the project. It's best to speak with your contractor beforehand to check if they plan to cover your furniture, protect your vents, or use fans to redirect dust. Eliminating drywall dust is a particularly large challenge during construction, so always take this into account during your planning phase.

You do not have to dig footers for a deck as long as it meets local code and holds up to weather in your area. If you live somewhere that experiences high winds and earthquakes, you may need to dig for your deck posts. Deck blocks, post anchors with base plates, and helical pile systems are the three no-dig deck post options you can choose from if local code permits.

The rules for trenching and excavation include setting up and following safety protocols, learning how to use tools and machines properly, and ensuring there is a safe exit for all workers. Keep heavy equipment and materials away from the edge of the hole or trench. Call the 811 dig line before starting any excavation or trenching project to ensure you don’t hit any electrical or gas lines.

How deep your septic system needs to be into the ground depends on several factors. In extremely cold environments, the tank needs to rest below the maximum frost line, which can be up to six or eight feet deep. The standard burying depth for most systems is between a few inches and four feet below ground level. Depth can also depend on the slope of the landscaping and other property variables.

The best method for digging a trench depends on the scope of the project. For a short, shallow trench (less than 2 feet deep) in light, soft soil, digging by hand may be sufficient. However, digging by hand is labor-intensive, so consider the effort required. A machine trencher is the better option for longer trenches (over 100 feet), deeper ones, or when dealing with difficult soil conditions, such as rocky or hard ground, or obstructions like tree roots. A machine can save significant time and energy in these situations.
