I have been a licensed architect since 1988, practicing in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. In 2005, I launched my own firm with emphasis on single family and multi-family residential design, commercial building design and fit-out and institutional design for public entities with a focus on administrative and justice projects. I have a wide and deep range of experience with residential, commercial and institutional clients. I work well with clients, developers, builders and construction managers. I understand the process and value of the primary project delivery methods including design-bid-build and design-build. Stylistically, my philosophy is to fit in with the local style, while maintaining integrity and fluidity of design. Architectural heroes: Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Kahn, Frank Furness, Henry Hobson Richardson.

"David was professional, gave excellent recommendations and was a true pleasure to work with. Really willing to work with us on getting our project finalized and approved and was easy to reach with any questions or changes. Defintely recommend!"

"After years of working with various contractors on major home improvements, we finally found our dream team with Duane Mainardi Builders! From the moment we reached out, Duane and his crew impressed us with their honesty and clear communication. Duane was always available throughout the project, and Keith, the site foreman, was simply incredible. He was onsite every step of the way and made the entire experience smooth and enjoyable. When we asked for changes after work had started, they welcomed every request with a genuine commitment to getting it just right. The siding crew was professional, skilled, and worked tirelessly. What we anticipated to be a four day job was impressively completed in just two and a half days. The final result? Gorgeous vinyl siding that has completely transformed our home?s look. We wholeheartedly recommend Duane Mainardi Builders if you want high quality siding done right by a team that truly stands behind their work. Michael and Vicki Sneed"

"I was long over due on doing a addition/ remodeling project on my house. I had Victor come out and I went over what my plans were and what I had envisioned. He was quick to offer solutions that met the cities guidelines, which meant part of my addition would be 2 stories, to allow room for my master suite. They prepared the plans worked out all the details with me. The scope of our project was; adding a master suite, enlarging the family room, kitchen remodel, powder room remodel, and some other misc. work. I was pleased with every aspect of there work, from customer service to the quality of the work preformed. One thing I was really impressed by is the attention to details. Victor would spend so much time talking to me about little design elements, how to position the lights, where to put switches, all things which I thought were pointless at the time. But now I realize all those little things really do add up to make a great finished product. All around it was a pleasure working with Build Now NYC"

Dunrite Design Group is a Home Improvement Company that specializes in all your residential and commercial contracting needs! We have a full team of employees that see the job completed and done right! Super Service Award winners 2013, 2015, and 2017!!! Alternate Phone: (646) 823-7417 Fax: (347) 286-4725

"Admiration and gratitude are the words that come to mind when thinking about the Dunrite Design Group. The work is of superior quality and very personalized. Even though we realize that our bathroom renovation was a "small" job in comparison to what this company handles, we felt as if our bathroom was all that mattered to owner John Dunrite and his crew. We cannot emphasize enough how accommodating John Dunrite is, paying attention to all details, constantly stopping in to check the work, taking pride in the job, and even meeting us at a tile store to pick out materials. The company's crew followed John's lead with top-notch work. Vijay, manager of the work; George, who tied it all together; and all of the men, went above and beyond to help us through the bathroom renovation process. No request was a problem. Our apartment and building were respected in terms of: cleanliness, noise control, waste removal, adherence to the time that the work was done, and quickness in which the job was completed. The cost charged was beyond reasonable. We look forward to having the Dunrite Design Group return to our home for further renovations and highly recommend this company without reservation. Thank you so much!! Carlos and Susan Miranda"

"We deciding to bring on an architect after we realized our home improvement project was going to be a large one. We found John on Angie's List and were impressed by the number of highly rated reviews which touted his responsiveness and capabilities. After reaching out via his website contact form (over a weekend!), he got back to us within a day and scheduled a visit to talk about our project. He was very accommodating in working around our schedules. His initial visit did require a nominal fee ($90), but it was then applied to our contract. We explained our project to John, which includes a two story addition, with a family room on the first floor (including a new fireplace and chimney) and large walk-in closets connected to our bedroom on the second floor. In addition, it involves expanding our master bathroom into the old walk-in closet, as well as creating a complex deck and patio area in the rear of our home, including a roofed-covered section and a built-in gas powered grill. We only had general ideas of what we wanted, but not how the pieces would come together, and weren't even sure if we wanted the addition to go forwards or backwards from our current home structure. In the very first meeting, John brought some great ideas to the table and we knew he was the right person for the job. Because we were unsure of which way would be best to layout the new addition, John was patient with us and worked through two different sets of plans, in order for us to see how the ideas would play out. He worked with the town to understand our options for setbacks, variances, and zoning. He made recommendations, but also listened to our thoughts and reasons and worked them in as best he could. He likely had his own ideas about what was the best way to go, but allowed us to come to the same conclusion after several revisions. What was really great is that he clearly cares about style and look/feel. He knew our home was a Victorian and wanted to make sure we didn't deviate from that feel. He didn't just create boxy shapes, but figured out how to make elements and rooflines flow into each other and create visually appealing connection points. He also made sure we were considering important value points, like windows, wall space, ease of entry, ceiling height, etc. He truly cares about the quality of the end result. The fact that he had opinions and would push back on us sometimes is actually really important, as he is the expert on understanding how designs can turn into a finished product. We worked through 3 iterations of both sets of plans before we decided to go out the back, instead of the front. He then worked through 4 more iterations with our feedback. John was great about understanding that feedback and ultimately if there was a place where we didn't want to compromise, he built in exactly what we wanted (as long as it wasn't a poor architectural decision). The 3D exterior mockups were super helpful in letting us visualize everything. The end set of plans is something we are really excited about. In the second phase of work, John worked on all of the details around construction, which is key for not only providing what is needed to the building departments in town, in order to get permits, but also for getting bids from contractors. As this phase drew to a close, John provided a couple recommendations for general contractors with whom he regularly works with. We ultimately ended up selecting one of his recommendations and have been happy thus far, ideally breaking ground within the next few weeks. The cost of the build portion of this project is about 20% more than we had originally budgeted for, but we did add some features in along the way that were admittedly expensive (covered/roof portion of the deck, patio, and chimney/fireplace). From start to finish, the planning phase of this project took about 2 months. Considering how many revisions we had, that could have been a lot longer, but John was very responsive to feedback, with often a 48 hour (or less) turnaround period after receiving the feedback. That includes brainstorming through the structural complexities of our requests. As for continued work with John, he has been great, even after we have finished up with the planning phase. He offers additional availability for a nominal cost if we need him for any significant time to help with the build phase, but in the meantime has been really helpful and responsive with providing additional information to our GC. I would definitely recommend John for any size architectural project!"

Architects questions, answered by experts

You'll find Arts and Crafts homes across the country in varying styles. On the East Coast, bungalows and Tudor Revivals fill the Boston area through New Jersey. In the West, Mission-style homes incorporate terracotta shingles, white stucco siding, and rounded archways.

Palm Springs homes and similar mid-century modern architecture took off in Northern California, Seattle, and the Midwest. You'll also find many homes that emulate the style in northeastern states, such as throughout Pennsylvania and New York State. That being said, you'll have the best luck finding this style in its original home: Palm Springs and the surrounding area.

A designer is a great choice for remodeling projects that don’t require significant structural work. For remodeling that includes structural work like removing load-bearing walls, altering exterior walls, or adding on a room, an architect can design and execute the renovations while ensuring your home remains structurally sound.

Yes, you can finance cottage construction through several options. Construction loans provide funds in stages as work progresses, while home equity loans or lines of credit are available if you have existing property. Some lenders offer a combined construction and permanent mortgage. Always review loan terms and payment milestones before committing.

The various types of architects can be broken down into eight distinct categories, but there can be specific specialties within each of them. Most homeowners will work with a residential, restoration, green, interior, landscape, or retrofit architect for projects. There are also lighting and commercial architects whose work is geared more toward large spaces and businesses.
