"From the minute Tomy called me back I knew these were the roofers I wanted to deal with for my roof issues. I had a difficult roofing issue and he was honest about all my options. He responded on all my calls and was extremely nice to deal with and didn't talk to me like I was an idiot. He was honest and gave me estimates on 3 different options. Tony and his crew were on time answered all my questions. The final result was what I expected. Pricing is reasonable and he isn't looking to make a killing and leave you with a mess. I highly recommend Affordable Roofing Experts."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Flapping shingles, or shingles that are lifting or curling away from your roof, can be glued back into place using roofing cement or sealant. Apply the glue underneath the shingle, then press it down firmly. You can leave a brick on top of the shingle to hold it in place overnight while the sealant dries.

To apply for a roofing permit, contact your local building authority. You may visit their office in person or contact them via phone or email. For more information on how to start the process, visit their website.

Yes, shingles should overhang the drip edge, typically between 1/2-inch and 3/4-inch. An overhang shorter than 1/2-inch can allow wind-driven rain to get under the shingles and damage the roof deck or fascia. Conversely, an overhang longer than 3/4-inch increases the risk of shingles getting caught by strong winds, which can lead to roof uplift. Always check your local building code for exact overhang requirements in your area.

Roof work is dangerous and exacting, and a misstep could lead to even more costly repairs, so we do not recommend DIYing. If you are dead set on giving it a go, practice safety measures. Wear a harness, only work during mild weather, and have a partner to help. Potentially DIY-friendly jobs include patching up small leaks, sealing areas around the chimney, and replacing a few shingles.

The ideal color for your roof depends entirely on your preference. If you’re looking for something classic, gray, brown, and black will rarely steer you wrong. A roof with a pop of color like green or red can be sophisticated and elegant when paired with the right colored siding. Decide what vibe you’re looking for and choose a color palette that suits you.
