"Situation resolved!!!! This started off as a little bit of water in the corner of the basement but escalated very quickly with the snow melt. Sean was here the same day I called to assess the situation and began work shortly after. They had to chop up the entire perimeter of the basement floor to install the french drains. This is definitely messy work and they never left a mess behind. All the guys were great and the work was well done and in a very timely manor. HUGE amount of stress has been lifted and thank you to Century Masonry and Waterproofing for making the process relatively painless."

"Did a great job, thorough, good cleanup and were careful not to make a mess on our main floor. Came back afterwards to flash the french drain to see if that helped reduce our radon levels. Really nice guys, would highly recommend."

"Went great, let me know that as my piping interconnects with my neighbor's (row houses dating to the 1940s), he couldn't actually snake the bathroom sink. That was after he looked in my attic and my neighbor's attic to see if he could gain access to the vent pipe from above. Did snake the tub - which is now draining much better. In addition to the snaking, he recommended and had on hand a bottle of enzyme declogger for the sink - hopefully that works!"

"It went great. We had water in our basement after every rain storm, but it was a complicated problem. We interviewed 5 businesses before selecting American A-1, as they were the only ones who came up with a solution for our problem. Through the whole process they were responsive and professional. The team that came and did the work was also great. They were on time, finished on schedule, were courteous and professional. They did a great job. I had some questions afterwards and Lou was always available to answer them. Most importantly the work was completed several months ago and we haven't had water in the basement since. The price was very fair. i would hire them again in a second."

Storm Drain Installation questions, answered by experts

Storm handles using universal hole spacings are interchangeable regardless of brand and model. However, some older models may require specific hardware. In these cases, we recommend replacing your storm door altogether instead of spending hours looking for a replacement part online. Newer models also tend to be more durable and efficient, so a new storm door could be a worthy investment.

Instead of a security door, you might opt for a heavy-duty screen door made from durable mesh, which allows better sunlight and airflow. Additionally, you could enhance security by installing strong locks on your existing door. A double-cylinder deadbolt provides robust security; however, be aware that some local laws prohibit them due to safety concerns during emergencies.

Some storm doors might need two closers, depending on the weather conditions in the area. For example, if it’s particularly windy where you live, installing two storm door closers (instead of one) can prevent your door from slamming shut when it’s propped open. You can place one at the top of your door and another at the bottom.

Storm door panels are typically made from tempered or laminated glass, and each type has its benefits. Tempered glass goes through a special heating and cooling process, increasing its strength and durability. It’s known for its safety features—when it breaks, it shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces rather than sharp shards. Laminated glass is made by sandwiching a layer of plastic between two layers of glass. This interlayer holds the glass pieces together even when shattered, preventing them from scattering.

No, a storm door should not replace a regular door. It lacks the durability, insulation, and security of a proper exterior door. Most storm doors have lightweight frames and minimal locking hardware, and they aren’t meant to stand alone. While they work well as a backup to your main entry door, relying on one as your only barrier would likely lead to drafts, higher energy bills, and safety concerns.
