"The provider was very careful about getting all the airducts cleaned. The only negative was that I had to vacuum all the rooms around the register vents, because there was a lot of debris left on the floors when he was done. My air ducts are cleaner than they have been in years,

"Very professional and on time. I had several odd jobs that needed to be done; a broken window replacement, garage side door that needed repair, flagpole to be re-anchored to the house - those kinds of things. No hesitancy on their part to do these odd jobs. I would definitely use this provider again and would recommend."

"Rob helped me identify issues with my gutters, which were 'brand new' with the home purchase but poorly installed, so I had water overflow in several areas. I've worked with Rob in the past and know the quality of his work is great and he also does his best to help keep you within a reasonable budget. He and the team were punctual and efficient so they managed to leave earlier than expected. They replaced all of my gutters and also added gutter-guards for a reasonable price; they look great and are a huge improvement over the original gutters, as they've done well with some recent downpours we've had. Thanks again for a job well done!"

"First he didn’t want to give me credit for the $1,000. He said that Angie’s List didn’t give him money.  Then he estimated my bathroom at $8,000 and brought it down to $7,000. He was also supposed to finish the job before Christmas. He didn’t finish until after the first of the year. I paid for extra work to be done. He said he'd have more people working with him and it was just him. The quality of the work was fine, but the price was more than I had expected. His Big Deal should've been spelled out more."

"They were wonderful and they know the process about heating and cooling and what the problem was. They really know what they were doing and aside from that the owner, he is a very educated engineer, he is very confident to do his work. They came to check what's the problem and they came the next day with the parts they installed and fix it.They were very professional then they will give you an update and I highly recommend them."

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

The cost to install a central vacuum cleaner system averages about $1,600, ranging from $1,100 to $2,200, depending on the size of the system, add-on features, your home’s location, and age of the system. Accessibility to running lines and other equipment can also impact the project cost. Consult a central vacuum cleaner installation company for an accurate estimate of your installation cost.

Whether talking about a whole-house central vacuum or a portable vacuum cleaner, the expected cost of major repair work should always be balanced against its replacement cost. However, excluding high-cost motor replacements or major electrical trouble, repairs on a central vacuum system are typically far less than the cost of purchasing and installing a new one.

Technically, yes, you could install a central vacuum system on your own, but it is a very difficult DIY. There is a significant amount of planning, cutting into walls, and electrical wiring work that goes into it, which should only be performed by a professional. Because of the difficulty and expense associated with a central vacuum system, it’s worth it to hire a professional company familiar with the installation's complexities.

Experienced professionals don’t usually need to take down drywall to install the central vacuum. They are experienced in working in the tight spaces between walls and in crawl spaces to minimize any damage. The only drywall changes should be the holes cut for the new outlets. However, home design, existing plumbing, and other factors may require some modification. An estimate from a professional contractor should include information if any changes need to be made.

No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.
