"OMG I had 3 contractors from here to give me estimates for a replacement retaining wall. Local Boyz were the cheapest by 1/3 and did an exceptional job.. as a matter of fact I recommended them to my friend who also are hiring them. I would hire them again."

"Alex with Diaz Fencing was very punctual and easy to work and communicate with. He came out for the consultation and knew exactly what would be best for our yard. We had been trying to figure out how to do the project ourself for a year since buying our home, but we had a pretty steep decline in the back of our property that would cause the fence to be un level if not fixed properly. Alex suggested doing a retaining wall, and did so in a very cost effective yet still safe and great looking way. He even added solar lights to the decorative steps he created as a bonus without mentioning it. We also asked him to remove an old section of fence and build a decorative gate which he did at no extra cost and made look great. Diaz Fencing also got the work done fast! They completed our retaining wall in a day, and then completed the entire fence project the next. I 100% recommend Diaz Fencing for your fencing project, and am looking to hire them again for more projects to come!"

"Very pleased with the service. The owner, Chris, went out of his way to answer all of my inquiries with detailed explanations and suggestions. He also made sure, every step of the way, that the job was done to my satisfaction. And it was! Punctual. Professional. Office staff were courteous and efficient. Alex, who prepared proposals for all of the work, was professional and efficient. He also had an uncanny eye for detail, and picked out some things that my contractor had missed. So glad I had Sir Grout do this work to preserve my new ceramic floors and shower, and to provide some much needed restoration to two older showers that were showing some serious wear and tear. Excellent, competitive pricing. This company aims to please. I strongly recommend Sir Grout of Manasquan."

Retaining Wall Installers questions, answered by experts

Proper design and construction prevent erosion and add structural stability to landscapes.

A retaining wall can only function as a fence if it’s high enough on all sides to prevent someone from accidentally falling into the pool. However, most retaining walls retain dirt, which means their purpose is not related to safety. There would need to be nothing on the other side of the wall for it to be considered a fence, but in that case, it wouldn’t retain anything and would cease to be a retaining wall.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.

Costs range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending on size, material, and design complexity.

If you've decided you'd like to skip the cost of restoring a brick exterior wall after considering whether you should repair or replace brick on your house, you can consider installing fiber cement siding over brick for a cost of $2 to $6 per square foot. When done properly, cement siding over brick offers a durable, low-maintenance option that can actually reduce your home's energy costs. It's also attractive. However, improper installation or installation over heavily compromised brick can cause water damage.
