"I was amazed. We had 10 new windows replaced, and after working a 10 hour day, I was dreading going home & cleaning for the next 10 hours. But when I walked inside my home you didn't even know they were there. everything was placed back to where it belonged, there was no mess to vacuum. There also was no mess outside, my garden was not even touched. The only thing I had to do was wash the windows and hang the curtains. They were very nice & polite, professional men who installed the windows. The windows themselves are 100% perfect. We could not be happier and could kick ourselves for not doing it sooner. They gave us a date in July for Installation. They arrived in May."

"What they did was great. There was one area that they were supposed to come and fix up. They did back splash and I guess it's 7/8th of an inch in between the tiles. Under the window sill, there was like a quarter inch, which is too big of a space and it's cracking a little bit. So I called them a couple of times. It has been almost a year and they haven't come out. I hate to give them a bad recommendation because what they did was good. I liked the job they did, but I feel that if there is a correction to be made they should have come out and made it without me having to call constantly. I haven't called them for a while, only because I got kind of disgusted with it. But the quality of the work that they did was very nice and I was happy with it. I wash the dishes and I look at it because I know it's there. The rest of it looks very, very nice and I can't complain. There were additional charges on top of the big deal amount because I didn't use their tile. I had ordered my own tile. So I guess there was more work involved. So they told me. I think I paid $100 more. If they fixed the thing in a timely manner, I definitely would have made recommendations. In fact, I was kind of thinking about them for a bathroom upstairs. But I just don't like having to ask for a service that I already paid for, repeatedly. I guess, that's my issue. I don't want to have to call you back several times before you come out and fix it."

Glass Block questions, answered by experts

You can still see vaguely into some types of glass block windows at night. Although there won’t be clear definitions, passersby may still see shapes, shadows, and movement through the glass. If you want complete privacy, consider installing diamond glass block windows rather than the typical clear or wavy glass blocks.

Glass block windows come in various patterns and styles that offer privacy and unique aesthetics. Frosted or textured glass diffuses light and enhances privacy. Wave-pattern glass blocks imitate ocean waves with flowing lines. Ice-glass blocks resemble cracked ice. Fluted glass blocks feature parallel vertical grooves, adding texture and depth. Clear glass blocks, similar to glass Coke bottles, offer transparency with some distortion and may have smooth surfaces or subtle textures, adding visual interest.

Heavy glass tends to be more expensive than thin glass because it is stronger and more durable. In most cases, ¼-inch-thick glass is ideal for mirrors, and ⅛-inch-thick glass is ideal for residential windows. Heavier glass isn’t always necessary, and can be more challenging to hang or install. Work with a local window installation pro for replacement or new construction windows.

Glass block windows aren’t fire hazards; fire-rated glass block windows can increase your home’s fire safety. Modern glass blocks are made with materials that can resist high temperatures and prevent fire spread. Most offer a 45-minute fire rating, while some increase it to two hours. Compared to the typical 20 to 90 minute rating for a double-pane window, glass block can increase your home’s safety in the event of a fire.

Glass block windows typically last for 15 to 30 years, which is slightly less than the 20- to 50-year lifespan of standard windows. You can extend their life by resealing them every few years. Professional installation is also key to ensuring the windows are placed correctly and will function properly for years to come. A professional installer will have the necessary skills, tools, and knowledge to install these features and can identify potential issues like damaged frames or cramped areas during a consultation.
