"They were great to work with and came in with a competitive price. They were clean and efficient. Had 125 feet of French drains installed through our basement with 2 sump pumps done in one day. Came back a few days later to complete what was needed outside the house."

"Hi, I am an old customer of Select Basement for many years. This is my incredibly happy and satisfied review on the service call by Kenny M. First the backstory. The alarm went off on my battery backup on Wednesday early evening I called Select several times and no one got back to me. I just wanted to know if this was a serious problem. Considering all the rain we were having that week. This was unusual for Select not to return my call in a timely manner from the great service I had received from Select Basement for many years. I explained to the customer service representatives who took my calls who were very professional and tried to help but to no avail no one called me to answer my question. I received a called back Friday morning to set up an appointment for Monday to look at the alarm on the battery backup to the sump pump. I inquired if our annual maintenance check could be performed at the same time and was told yes. Monday morning Kenny called to say “He was on his way”. My appointment was at 8, he arrived 7:45. This was great because I had a 9:00 virtual business meeting. I explained my frustration with Select Basement and merging with Groundworks. Kenny took the time to explain the system changes and how things work now with Groundworks. Kenny proceeded to look at the battery and said it is working properly now. He asked how long we have had it. I said several years he recommend changing the battery, which he did. Kenny also performed the maintenance of flushing the French drain system to make sure that is still working fine. He took several pictures along the way to validate what he was doing. He addressed the dehumidifier that we have, he adjusted it so it would drain into the nearest little french drain hole. Kenny did a great job. He was careful to address all the issues that he thought needed to be addressed. Kenny was very professional and respectful technician leaving no mess behind. Our water has a lot of iron ore, Kenny cleaned the ore around the pump and also offered a recommendation on how to reduce the ore around the pump. He also explained the difference in the service pricing for the warranty offered. I appreciated Kenny taking the time to explain everything that Groundworks now offers to their customers. I know Select Basement and Groundworks merged only a few months back. However, the most important thing is customer service. If I called on Wednesday night thinking I am having an emergency, I should not have to wait for my call to be returned on Friday morning. I text Jason from Select Basement late that evening since no one got back to me right away . Jason responded right away and put my fears to rest and suggested a few options for the alarm shut off that did not work. He said he would pass the issue to the one of the managers. There has to be better response to customer when several calls are made with not even a touch point call back. Thank God by basement was not flooded. Select would have lost a customer."

"THIS WAS INSTALLATION OF FRENCH DRAIN & PUMP. We are new to this home, and had been in the crawl space maybe 2X! It is 4 feet deep w/1 light source. We knew the sump pump was shot - were looking merely for replacement w/battery backup. We stated there was no standing water. When Michael came to estimate, we had some surface water; he believed we needed more than we wanted; we didn't listen, he didn't pressure us. When the crew showed up after a particularly rainy period, Wilson showed us what we didn't know, had not seen before--we really had water down there. Wilson was honest, and advised while he could replace the sump pump, it likely wouldn't be enough to take care of the issues - my words, I'm paraphrasing - but he would do the work as we requested and leave it up to us to monitor and could return and install a french drain in the future. No pressure. After speaking with Wilson, and him showing us what we didn't know about the crawl space (seriously, who wants to go down there in the first place) he made sense to us and we realized we needed more than a new sump pump. We found Wilson to be knowledgeable and personable. Steve came out and after discussing it with him, again, it made sense to install the french drain and relocate the sump pump. Good thing we listened to the pros. French drain, moved pump to better location, and battery backup. We cannot say enough positive remarks about how meticulous they were with the installation. The crawl space looks amazing, the pump is quieter than the nightmare we had before, and they left the crawl space cleaner than it was before they arrived. For all the work they did OUTSIDE in preparation, etc., once they left, you would never even know they were here! They worked extremely hard in damp hot weather. Wilson was informative throughout, and the crew was respectful of our property. The new pump works like a charm and we are pleased with the work and the price."

Sump Pump Installation questions, answered by experts

A small sump pump running infrequently uses an average of 10 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity per month. The average cost for electricity is $0.171 per kWh. The size and use frequency affect how much electricity it uses. Sump pumps average one-third to one horsepower (hp) motors. One hp is equal to 745.7 watts. Watts multiplied by the time your pump is running divided by 1,000 equals your average kWh. Multiply kWh by your average cost of electricity. In areas with high rain or a marsh basin, the average cost can be as high as $15-$25 a month.

When a backflow valve fails, wastewater will flow back into your system, contaminating your drinking water. You’ll immediately notice backflow valve failure from a rotten smell and brown water coming from faucets. Get in contact with a septic pro or a plumber immediately if you suspect this has happened to you.

If your water pump fails, the first step is to turn off the power to the pump to prevent any further damage. Check for common issues such as clogs, electrical problems, or mechanical failures. If you cannot identify the problem, contact a professional who specializes in pump repairs. Prompt action can help minimize damage and repair costs.

Yes, it’s normal (and beneficial) to have a small amount of water in the bottom of your sump pit. It shows that your system is collecting groundwater, rain, and excess water from around your property—just like it’s supposed to. However, if the sump pit is always full, you might have a leak or a faulty sump pump.

Test regularly, clean the pump, and inspect the discharge line to ensure efficient operation.
