He called me right back.  He was in a nearby neighborhood finishing up, and so he showed up around 5:30.  He diagnosed my problem, and snaked the drain to clear the clog (tree roots).  He also checked my sump pump and showed me how to test it in the future (this is a new home to me).  Icing on the cake--he even helped me assemble the wet-dry vac that I'd bought pre-Sandy, but had not yet used or taken out of the box.  While I hope I don't need a plumber too often in the future, if I ever do, I have found a good one.  :-)
