"Brad and his team did a superb job installing spray foam insulation in our home in southern NH. Brad has a great understanding of how buildings work. The foam his team installed made our home incredibly and immediately warmer for a very fair price. He was upfront and very well reasoned about what would and would NOT work for our ice dams and cathedral ceilings.. His company scheduled us and completed the job faster than all the other contractors offered to do. He also offered a better price out of four bids. I feel that we really were lucky to have chosen Brad to do the work. We received four bids, some were substantially more expensive. And yet, Brad offered the only solution that made sense to us and that actually WORKED. The install went very fast. 24 hours post installation, we had zero smell. Our home was left as clean as when they started the work. I am extremely impressed."

"Warren did foam insulation to a gruesome crawl space and also installed a dehumidifier/fan to dry it up. He was very responsive, answered all my questions, was extremely polite, stayed under budget, excellent work done, and cleaned up every day. I m very pleased with all the work he did. I will hire him for more jobs. I highly recommend N.E.E. Construction and Spray foam."

"I could not have been more pleased by the work and the professionalism and the cost and the results. ABI was the first company to respond to my request for bids on the project. They were at the house within days of the request and were knowledgeable about putting insulation over light fixtures embedded in the ceiling. The attic did not have access from within or outside the house and they problem-solved this in a way that was a great solution. They lay down mats so as not to dirty up the carpets and stairs and they wore gear to protect themselves from the insulation. MY house was cleaner when they left than when they arrived. All of the people working on the project were professional and knowledgeable and the cost was extremely reasonable. For the first time this winter, my house feels like it can hold the heat. Looking forward to this summer, because I'm betting it will also improve my air conditioning!"

"Quality Insulation of Portsmouth did two jobs for me: They added blown in insulation to my attic last fall and installed gutters plus leaf guards this spring. Both jobs were excellently done at a reasonable cost. I would certainly recommend them and will likely use them again in the future."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

You don’t need to staple insulation, as your drywall and studs will hold it into place. But if you already have a staple gun and staples lying around, it can help keep the product in place and avoid any shifting. But, most experts agree it’s an unnecessary step.

If you’re adding a vapor barrier, you will need to staple that in place.

Depending on the size, insulation condition, and removal method, it can take anywhere from four hours up to twenty hours. Therefore, be prepared to split the projects into phases, or leave it to a professional. Insulation is an intermediate project with various risk factors and can be challenging to someone unfamiliar with the process.

The life span of fiberglass insulation can be as long as 80 to 100 years, but because of changing building codes, it’s best to get your insulation checked every 10 to 15 years. Signs of degrading fiberglass insulation include bits of batts on the floor or batts detached from frames. Having optimal, healthy insulation in your home will improve its energy efficiency, lowering your monthly bills.

Most insulation lasts 15 to 20 years, but it really depends on the type of insulation. Spray foam is a permanent insulation material that can last up to 100 years. Fiberglass and cellulose typically settle, shift, or deteriorate around 15 years. Once your insulation reaches the 15-year mark, it's time to check it for signs of needing to be replaced.

Reflective and high R-value batt or roll insulation are often considered energy-efficient, offering significant thermal resistance benefits.
