Customers say: Quick response

"This company went above and beyond to help us. Our furnace stopped working and we had no heat at all. We called them and Brian came out the next morning and gave us a quote on the spot. Four days later they installed our new furnace and had us up and running in no time. I would heartily recommend this company. I know I will call them again if I have any problems in the future!"

"Wonderful service from Adam! My water heater was struggling to keep up with my wife?s long showers - which by the way she heats them up hot as hell! ? Besides the point, Adam recommended sizing up the water heater in order to keep up with the demands of some crazy hot water. Incredibly fast installation process and Adam was really friendly. I would definitely recommend him to all my friends who are looking for a plumber. You should certainly give him a call!"

"Patrick called Friday night and showed up at 7:15 AM on a Saturday morning (OMG) to repair a central A/C system that was icing up inside. I'm still waiting to hear from the other 2 companies that were listed in my area. I know they will call Monday which would mean myself and my disabled wife would spend a very uncomfortable weekend and probably longer because most HVAC companies don't work weekends and it usually takes at least a day to schedule an appointment. Not fun when the humidity is 65% and the temp is close to 80. Patrick did a great job, A/C is running like new. Will hire him again and recommend him in a heart beat. Prices are very reasonable. Hire him!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Window AC units use a fair amount of electricity, but significantly less than central AC systems. Because they are more energy-efficient for cooling individual rooms or small spaces, their usage is comparatively low. On average, a window AC unit consumes between 500 and 1,400 watts, while a central AC system uses over 3,500 watts—meaning a window unit uses about one-third of the energy. This typically translates to a monthly running cost of $15 to $40, although this can vary depending on external factors.

It’s critical to use the right size AC for your space and not go too small or too big. If you purchase an undersized unit, it won’t properly cool your house, and it has to work harder to reach the optimal temperature. This will eventually wear your unit out. An oversized unit can spell trouble because it will turn off and on more frequently, which also wears out your AC unit. An oversized unit also causes humidity in the home.

You should use a breathable, weather-resistant cover with ventilation. It can be a top cover or a full cover that has mesh to allow airflow. A full, non-breathable cover can cause moisture to build up, leading to rust, frozen parts, and corrosion. A full cover also attracts unwanted critters, such as mice, that can damage the wiring and your unit. If you need to protect your AC unit from falling icicles, choose a sturdy top cover or piece of wood that prevents icicles from damaging your unit.

If the air coming from your AC unit is cool but never quite cold, there are a few reasons this might be happening. For starters, it could signal that your refrigerant levels are low. If there are no other indications of this particular issue, like hissing noises or frozen refrigerant lines, anything from dirty filters to damaged condenser or evaporator coils could be responsible for the problem.

This depends on the extent of the freezing. Some ACs only need an hour or two to thaw out, but others may need a full day to completely unfreeze. Once you turn off the system to let it unfreeze, check it periodically to make sure the drain pan doesn’t overflow. When you turn the system back on, keep an eye on it to ensure it doesn’t start freezing again.
