"From start to finish, Steve was a dream to work with. First, he educated us on the different kinds of films to put on our new windows. He left us with three different patches of film on our window for a week so we can make a decision based on what kind of light and how it looks with different weather patterns. "I waited a while because they are backed up due to Covid but they were definitely worth the wait. They were precise, quick and extremely detailed. They put two windows in for me (where windows didn't exist before) and covered up a window. They insulated and everything. No painting but that was cool. I was very impressed. Impact windows are a type of window made with impact-resistant glass, designed specifically for hurricanes. The glass, treated with ethylene-vinyl, can withstand winds up to 200 mph, as well as flying debris. Brands sometimes test their impact windows with large missile impact tests.

Impact windows may be required in some places. For instance, the Florida Building Code requires homes to have impact-resistant windows if they live within a mile of the coast where wind speeds can reach 110 mph or more.

It’s easy to tell if you have low-E windows. Light a match or grab a pen light and hold it up to your windows. You should see multiple reflections in the window—four for double-pane windows. If one of the reflections is a slightly different color than the other three, you have low-E windows. If you don’t have low-E windows, all the reflections will be the same color.

Your new windows may let in more noise than your old windows because they are not the right size or they were installed improperly. Improper installation, or choosing windows that are too small for the opening, can create gaps around the window that let in noise.

Another factor could be the STC and OITC ratings. If your new windows have lower ratings than your old windows, this means they have lower performance when it comes to dampening noise from the outdoors.

The best way to clean outside windows is by using a garden hose. Start by spraying the windows with a high-pressure stream to clear off loose dirt and grime. Then use a mixture of hot water and dish soap and scrub the windows with a sponge. Rinse off the soapy water with the hose. Before you finish up, spray the windows with a solution of vinegar and water and wipe them down with a microfiber cloth.

Hot water removes grime more efficiently than cold water and evaporates more quickly so that your windows will dry faster. However, you may want to use cold water instead if your windowsill paint is chipping or peeling because heat can worsen this condition.
