"Joe and his team well exceeded my expectations! The job quote was fair and the work is great, I'm so happy with my "new" kitchen! Pedro sanded and stained my cabinets and they look like new. Mike took his time installing the new hardware and if any of the handles don't line up, I can't see it, they look perfect! We also had a screen door / side door frame that needed to be replaced. Joe did an excellent job. The door was more work than initially thought and Joe stayed until the job was complete. Joe showed true work ethic keeping at it until the job was done! I'd definitely recommend Locke It In and hire them again!"

"Fence - good.  Service horrible.  Could not reach them to schedule.  Then they just showed up one day unannounced and started.  Crew was terrible.  Did not ask to use hose and then left hose dripping. Left a hidden pile of dirt in the back of the yard that had to be cleaned up at much effort.  Tried to reach them to complain with no response.  Sent a letter with final payment to complain, which was then sent back with a thank you card.  I would not use this company again.

"They notified my right away that they would not be able to do the inspection because of my location, and said Angie's Lst would give me a full refund.  Angie's List eventually got around to refunding my money, but it took a while and I actually had to convince them the company would not do the work in my area, even though the company had notified them.

"Tradewinds  was known as Queen City Remodelling when we contacted them to do work for us in Dec. 2012.We were impressed with the owner, Matt, his ideas and suggestions and his price, and told him we would like to start on April 1st. He agreed and in March sent his project manager out to discuss things. The problem was that Luke had no idea what they were going to do for us and left quite embarrassed and upset. They finally showed up May 29. Their  workmanship was very good and the crew was very nice to have around. Good thing, because due to Matt's scheduling ineptness, the one month project in spite of our pleading, threatening and cajoling, lasted over 3 1/2 months. Overall we are very pleased with the   results but due to Matt's lack of expertise in estimating the length of time required to do this job, and his lack of response to our many requests workers to finish the jobs, we will not be usin them again."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

The most common hog wire gauge for a fence is 12.5. However, you can choose from a few gauges based on your needs. While 12.5 is a reliable gauge for penning in large, strong animals, 9 gauge is a better option of you have large animals that are easily spooked, such as horses. For smaller animals, like dogs or pigs, you can use a 16 gauge hog wire.

A horizontal fence is typically more expensive to build than a vertical fence, often costing between 10% and 20% more. The higher cost is due to the need for a higher grade of lumber and more posts to prevent the boards from sagging, which increases both material and labor expenses. Despite the higher price, horizontal fences tend to be more durable and offer a more distinct, modern look compared to the more common vertical picket style. However, they may not be the best option for privacy, as there can be slight gaps between the horizontal rails.

The average cost to install a wrought iron fence is around $3,150, with typical project costs ranging from $470 to $10,500. The final price can vary significantly based on several factors, including the fence's total length and height, design complexity, metal thickness, and your property's topography.

For materials alone, you can expect to pay around $25 to $35 per linear foot. When including installation, the cost is typically between $50 and $70 per linear foot.

Additional factors that can influence the total cost include:

  • Custom designs, decorative flourishes, gates, and columns

  • Labor costs in your area

  • The need for permits

  • Land preparation, such as old fence removal, tree or bush clearing, and land grading

For an accurate estimate, it is best to consult a professional fence installer with the specific measurements and design requirements for your project.

There are several options for post materials. Depending on where you live, the weather, and what kind of durability you want, you can choose from wood, steel or concrete posts for a barbed wire fence. Your corner and end posts should be especially strong in order to maintain the structural integrity of the fence.

You’ll need to bury the garden fence about 1 foot underground. It’s tempting to save on materials by burying the fence just a couple of inches, but if you do so, determined pests will still be able to dig under the fence and access your plants. Burying your garden fence deep into the soil is an important step that allows you to attach a wire barrier to the fencing.

Burrowing animals (like voles, moles, rabbits, and gophers) can’t dig or chew through this wiring, meaning that you’ll be keeping your prized petunias or your robust veggie garden from being eaten.
