I hired Steve Tolmie from Coat of Arms Roofing in April 2021 for a job in Portsmouth NH. He gave a quote of $17K to do the job and asked for half up front. I should have been alarmed when he became very pushy about getting his deposit check. I signed the contract on Friday and told him I would meet him at noon on Monday to give him a check but he kept pushing me to meet him earlier than that. I held my ground, met him at noon, and gave him a check (which he asked to be made out to his personal account, not his professional account.. another red flag). The job was estimated to take 2 weeks and Steve asked me to rent a lift for one month in case bad weather slowed things down. During the first week, Steve never showed up to do any work. I called multiple times to try to figure out when he was coming and his wife told me that he was out quoting other jobs, but that he'd get to it soon. He never did. He showed up for an hour here and there he never stayed for more than an hour and most days he never showed up at all. I continued to try calling after several more days past, but then my calls started going to a prank recording of Donald Trump. Finally, a month went by and the lift needed to be returned. Steve performed a total of 6 hours of work on an 80-hour job and repaired less than 10% of my roof. I involved my contractor and a city official in Portsmouth to speak with Steve and he repeatedly promised that he was coming back to finish but he didn't. Instead, he took off with $8500 of my money and finally disappeared. I've never heard from him again. My lawyers are now involved and we are filing a claim to recoup my losses. However Steve lives in a trailer in Raymond and we're not sure if he may have used all of the money on drugs, as his inconsistent behaviour and continuous lying was consistent with an addict, although I cannot confirm he's doing drugs. While this has been a horrible situation for me, and I feel I've been taken advantage of, I would feel much better knowing that I may help to stop this from happening to anyone else. So please do not hire this man. He lies. He doesn't do the job, and he will take your money. Hopefully someday I will recoup my losses, but I'd love for others to avoid this type of disaster all together. - Jessica, Portsmouth N

When it was time to do some remedial repairs on my house I was having difficulty finding my usual contractors and getting a reasonable quote. I decided to check in with Angie's List for the first time ever. There I found Community Home Services, Sanford, ME. I never had heard of this company, but I took stock in the A+ ratings on Angie's List. Owner Larry Ryea came to my house the same day and took notes. A few days later I had a quote that included clean up and dump of old materials. The quote was $1200 -2200. less than other quotes. So, I took a chance and it was a good choice. Community Home Services aims to please and the crew was hard working and considerate all the way through the project that expanded into two window replacements and a chimney repair. And, while they were at it, cleaned my gutters that were much in need of cleaning. Totally recommend Larry Ryea and his crew

They were very friendly and professional, and did a great job cleaning the house and the deck, and were even able to remove a tough stain on the house from years of exhaust from the furnace. They were very responsive, and fit me in within a few days of my initial call.

I was leaving as the 2 gentleman drove up with a pickup towing a trailer. We are on a private road with 3 houses. It can be a challenge to get a large trailer into the culdesac. They backed in with no trouble. They introduced themselves and moved forward for me to exit the driveway. Very polite and asked if there was anything in particular they should focus on; I mentioned the gutters. One of the workers had me show him the areas; he thought they could clean them. I came home after they had completed the project and besides a beautiful clean home and gutters you would not know they were there. Great job

  • My Pro Property Services

The owner, Nick, visited personally to inspect the property and work up the estimate. He was very polite, friendly, and professional, and very knowledgeable about his craft. (He told me his family has, or had, had been in the paint business for years.) He did say it might be difficult to find the stain I had previously used on the deck, and preferred to use again; however, his crew did show up with the exact same brand and color of stain. The crew foreman, Nolan, was also very friendly and polite. The crew showed up early one morning and did all the power-washing, then were there early the next morning to do all the prep, sanding, and staining. Not once did I look out and see anybody taking a smoke or water break. Every time I glanced outside, all three men were working diligently. In fact, at one point I stepped outside while they were staining and tried to engage in small talk. The two guys working with Nolan looked up from their work and nodded politely, but I could tell they wanted me to leave them alone so they could continue working. After they had finished, cleaned up, and packed up, Nolan mentioned that they had put a single coat of stain on all surfaces. I pointed out that the contract provided for two coats on the deck, and the upper surfaces of the railings. Uncomplaining, the crew once again unpacked all their gear, and applied the second coat. I went out to do a couple of errands, and when I returned, they had finished the additional work, packed up, and left my property looking like they had never been there, with the exception of a beautifully clean and newly-stained deck area. Three days after they had first showed up, we were using the deck again. I have several other painting/staining projects upcoming, and Nick will be the first person I call for an estimate

Danny called came out shortly after my requesting a quote on a Sunday. He kept me informed as to when the job would be done since outside work was delayed with the weather. They showed up when planned and did a great job cleaning the gutters, and giving me information about my roof as well. Very pleased with the work done and the professionalism
