"I can’t say enough good things about Tomahawk Flooring. Richard and his father were knowledgeable, skilled, professional and quick to respond whenever I had a question. They installed laminate flooring in seven rooms of our house including two bathrooms and did a great job. The floor looks wonderful. I highly recommend them."

"My floors look amazing now! They restored all the wood floors in our newly bought 1900's Victorian from dark, dull and dingy, to dazzling! I highly recommend having the D&T team refinish your hardwood floors."

"This company was excellent. The floors came out beautifully. There was little to no finish on the floors for the last 20 years or so. The three bedrooms came out stunning. The first floor had quite a bit of damage and pet stains that couldn't be completely sanded out, so they advised staining the floor in order to blend them in and they came out fine. They started work on a Monday morning and completed the whole house by Thursday morning. They kept me up to date on the progress as they went. When they left the place was spotless. Anthony even gave me advice on how to clean and take care of the floors. Don't hesitate to hire this company!"

"Steve, Dave, and Chad were wonderful! Curtious and kind...and there to get the job done! Not only did they refinish our existing hardwood floor, they installed new hardwood throughout the majority of the house, and installed new tile floors. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. Thank you!"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Berber is a loop pile carpet known for its strength, durability, and distinct looped look. It can be made from a number of different carpet materials, including nylon and wool. However, Berber isn’t as soft as cut pile carpet, so it isn’t the best carpet for a bedroom (although it’s a good style of carpet for living rooms).

With that said, if you really like the look of Berber, you can still install it in your bedroom—it just might not be as comfortable on your feet as cut pile carpeting.

Yes, carpeted stairs are generally considered safer than stairs with hard surfaces like wood, vinyl, or tile. Carpet provides more traction, which helps reduce the chances of slips and falls, and its cushioning can lessen the severity of an injury if a fall does occur. Hard surfaces often lack the friction needed for a secure tread and can be quite slippery.

However, it's worth noting that some carpets can also be slick, particularly if they are brand new, dirty, or made from certain materials. If any stair surface feels too slippery, traction treads can be added to most materials to increase grip and improve safety.

It depends on the kind you choose, but some types of carpet padding can last for decades. For instance, flat rubber—which is dense, durable, and higher-priced than other padding materials—has a life span of up to 20 years. On the other hand, prime foam—a lower-priced material that often comes free with a carpet installation—lasts less than five years on average.

Yes, flooring should go under the fridge and your other large appliances. Installing it underneath creates a seamless appearance and makes it easier to move appliances for cleaning or replacement. It is also essential for protecting your subfloor. A kitchen contractor will help you find suitable flooring that is durable enough to handle the weight of your fridge without denting or cracking.

It’s possible to reuse household materials to cover floors, but they won’t provide the same level of protection as dedicated materials. They’re also more difficult to tape down and more prone to slipping and bunching up—and any dirt or debris on them could scratch or stain your floors. That being said, extra materials like these can be useful for protecting the sides of furniture and placing in areas that could use added protection.
