"It was great working with Sean and Anthony on my fireplace remodel. It is clear that Sean has developed expertise working with fireplaces due to his long history as a mason. Love the look of the new fireplace and Sean walked me through every step of the remodel. Overall great experience and would highly recommend it for someone looking for a straight shooter."

"Josh arrived fully prepared to clean my gas fireplace and chimney. He explained everything clearly, was meticulous about cleanliness, and solved an unexpected issue with ease. He relit the pilot light and explained everything to me as he went along. Based on Josh’s work, I can highly recommend Ashguard to care for your fireplace."

"Duran removed my old gas fireplace, ran a new 6-inch insulated liner down the chimney, (which was not easy, the flue needed to be opened up a bit in certain spots). He rebuilt and repointed my upper chimney, waterproofed it, and installed an amazing new wood burning fireplace, that we are loving! He came out to the house, estimated the job for free. His price was thousands less than the competitors (others charged $250 just to come out and estimate) Duran was professional, honest, clean, hardworking and affordable. If you're getting chimney work done, you are crazy if you don't call this guy. I highly recommend. R"

"We hired Josh to completely transform our fireplace area and couldn’t be happier with the results. From the initial inspection to the final install, everything was explained clearly and handled professionally. The stonework and stove setup came out absolutely beautiful and completely changed the feel of the room. Josh was clean, punctual, and took real pride in his work. The before and after difference is night and day. I’d highly recommend him to anyone looking for quality chimney or stove work done right."

"All aspects of the job went as well as it possibly could. The carpenter patched the roof so one couldn’t even tell a chimney had ever been there. The large metal chimney was removed without incident. The gas fireplace insert needed to be cut out so as to preserve the brick encasing the fireplace and the wood mantel. Jim then expertly installed the electric fireplace, doing a beautiful job both solidly securing the new fireplace and making sure the presentation of the fireplace was perfect! It was a pleasure to see someone take meticulous care throughout the entire job, which included thoroughly cleaning up afterwards."

"Ben is a gentleman who really knows his business. He responded quickly to my first request, came to look at the project when he said he would and also came to do the work when he said he would. He actually repaired and sealed two chimneys, one of which I had no idea needed work. The crew worked efficiently and cleaned up after themselves. A job very well done; I am relieved and glad to have done business with Three Brothers Masonry. Would definitely recommended them."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

You should not use Windex or any other ammonia-based glass cleaners when cleaning the glass doors or glass front panel of a gas fireplace. Instead, remove the glass and lay it on a soft surface, like a drop cloth or towel. Then clean it using a specialty fireplace glass cleaner purchased at a hardware store or online. If the glass is relatively clean, you can get away with a vinegar and water solution, but tougher stains will require a specialized cleaner.

The main difference between an outdoor wood furnace versus an outdoor wood boiler is what each appliance is heating. An outdoor wood furnace burns wood to create heat, which warms the air and moves it through the ducts in your home. An outdoor wood boiler uses the heat from burning wood to warm water, which goes through pipes to radiators in the home.

Regular cleaning prevents the buildup of creosote and soot, ensuring good airflow and reducing the risks of chimney fires that could compromise safety.

To ensure the safety and longevity of your pre-fabricated fireplace, perform regular maintenance. This includes regular cleaning, checking the unit for cracks, and ensuring the venting and ventilation systems are clear and functioning properly. Additionally, scheduling professional inspections helps ensure safe operation.

Certain fireplace repairs will require that your contractor is licensed, including anything that involves moving, installing, or repairing gas lines. In that case, your professional will need to be a certified plumber. You can use Angi’s licensing lookup tool to confirm that the company you’re hiring is properly licensed. Most states don’t have specific license requirements for other fireplace repairs, but most demand at least a general contractor’s license. It’s also a good idea to look for companies certified by the National Fireplace Institute, as those pros tend to be more qualified to carry out the repair.
