After having a horrible experience with a contractor that did not follow through with rebuilding my chimney, I contacted Hoyt Masonry, Sean called me and came over right away. He went over all the problems that needed to get fixed and was very detailed on how he was going to get the job done. Sean and his team did an outstanding job rebuilding my chimney. If you need masonry work done, I highly recommend you contact Hoyt Masonry. It nice to know that there are still companies out there that are reliable, caring, knowledgeable and honest like Sean and the team at Hoyt Masonry.

I was extremely pleased with the work done at my home by Sean Hoyt and his son. They were here on time, worked diligently, and cleaned up carefully. I would not hesitate to highly recommend them. After they finished working on my chimney and had loaded up the ladders on their truck to leave I had a question about something I saw on the chimney. They were very kind to unpack the ladders again and go up on the roof so that I could show them the exact place I was talking about. It turns out that after all that it was just a shadow, but I appreciate that they were willing to go above and beyond to make their customer happy. The price was fair and reasonable for the job. I would not hesitate to hire Hoyt Masonry LLC again.

It went awesome! Sean is the best. He talks you through every part of the process and shows up when he says he will. He does great work and even follows up later to check on things. His price was competitive and fair. He did a chimney rebuild, a new pellet stove and liner. No issues at all. We will only use them for any chimney / fireplace needs. Great guy and company.

Honestly, I can’t say enough about this company. We had to do a rebuild on our chimney (it separated from the house). They gave us a great competitive price and kept within budget. We ran into an unforeseen issue during demo but Sean gave me three options and not just one to try to get extra. Sean and his guys were professional, super neat and did an awesome job! I also have never dealt with a contractor who texed and called through every step of the process like Sean did. If you need any mason or chimney work done, don’t go anywhere else. I’ve already booked him for a second job! Great work!

I called Hoyt Masonry for an estimate and within an hour or so Sean was at our facility. Within 24 hours I had a proposal for the work that needed to be done. Sean is a great communicator. He explained exactly when he would arrive to start the job, what he was doing every step of the way, what time he would be finished each day and when the job would be completed in its entirety. Sean and his son Anthony are very professional, dependable, extremely clean and meticulous in their work. The work that they provided for us was amazing. I would absolutely recommend them for any masonry job that you need done! Hoyt Masonry will be my go to company from now on! You won't be disappointed!!!

Hoyt inspected flues from my basement and the first floor. The first floor fireplace was adequate but the basement required removal of some material prior to the installation of a metal pipe suitable for my conversion from fireplace to woodstove. Sean was extremely helpful in making the conversion a reality.

Outstanding job from an outstanding professional. Sean Hoyt installed scaffolding on my roof eliminating the need for a boom lift rental that would have cost me at least $1200! He even agreed to leave his scaffolding in place for a few days so that my fireplace insert installer could use it. Sean’s workmanship was first class. He even sent me before and after pictures of the job because there was no way I was going up that high in the roof! He is a straight shooter and an old world craftsman with new world skills. I highly recommend Hoyt Masonry.

Sean did excellent work. He responded to me immediately and began work right away. He was always on time and communicated about every aspect of the project. Highly recommend! We have a house built in 1860 we purchased about 6 years ago. The fireplace/chimney was a more recent addition (70's?) and in disrepair - lots of moss, crumbling old mortar between bricks, and whenever it rained would get wet inside. During a wind storm we noticed some bricks dropping from the sky and noticed a branch brushing the top of the chimney and knew we needed to address it. In July we got an inspection with Fireside Sweeps who gave us a quote and inspection report. Early August we attempted to accept the work, but they told us their masonry was done for the year. This is when I contacted Hoyt Masonry and others. Sean responded quickly by phone and email and was able to give a fast quote based on inspection I sent from Fireside Sweeps. Cost was much more reasonable. Since they were the only company that responded that work could be done this year and relatively at a much better cost than original quote I pursued, we decided to go with it. The competition either didn't respond or told us they were booked up. I couldn't be happier with this service. They showed up promptly (on a Sunday) when scheduled (although there was some rescheduling along the way due to a very rainy month). Great communication before/during/after job. They went above and beyond to take my electric polesaw to cut back the offending branches that were threatening our chimney, which gave us breathing room to address our impending tree work. Hoyt seemed very honest and genuine. Compared to Fireside Sweeps they had better cost, better communication, and did not try to upsell me on anything. If we had taken the advise of the original company, we'd have ended up spending a lot more unnecessarily. The work done looks great - they cleaned up the top of our chimney with mortar and brick and installed new chimney cap which will keep the moisture out as well as critters. They did a chimney sweep to get rid of leaves and sticks. In a few weeks they will install a flue that closes at the top so we don't have to worry about stuffing insulating foam in the fireplace in the winter. We'll be well set up to do a gas log or insert. Work done looks high quality and we are very satisfied. Highly recommended - we will keep them in mind for any future projects.

Sean and his team do exemplary work - not just the job but cleanup, final touches etc. Needed to have a bulkhead to my cellar built which involved removing hundreds of pounds of dirt and rock. The team did the removal, rebuilt the stairs, repositioned necessary bricks on the patio etc. They recently began work to repair my chimney and fireplace. After opening the fireplace, it was clear that the fireplace had deteriorated to a dangerous level. Sean provided a solution (liner) which brought the fireplace up to code. He also repointed both the center chimney and furnace chimney, cleaned away all scrapings etc and will do the upstairs fireplace in the fall. Sean and his son are very professional and assiduous about ensuring that things are done correctly whether it's masonry, fencing, or painting. A real class act. Pricing below reflects all work done - bulkhead, chimney, fireplace, fencing etc.

I have used Hoyt Masonry for so many aspects of my home in Newburyport, MA. They are the best. Sean is very responsive and super communicative. Their prices are fair (lower than any other quotes), they are dependable, loyal, and ethical. I have had Hoyt Masonry waterproof my basement, put gorgeous backyard pavers down in my backyard, had my cobble stone driveway secured with concrete and my front brick steps fixed. They were able to fix broken bricks in the middle of the steps, and it looks completely restored – amazing. Anthony was such a hard worker. Came over for a solid 8 – 10 hours on a Sunday to make sure everything was finished. Thanks to Hoyt Masonry for rebuilding my old house, one brick and paver at a time!

DO NOT USE HOYT MASONRY! Forget all the positive reviews here or on Thumbtack - check out Yelp or BBB instead. BBB has 7 complaints against Hoyt, rates them a "C" and has revoked their accreditation. Shame on me for not checking other places before committing to them. We paid a $2,000 deposit on 5/15/2019 for repair of a chimney, installation of 3 chimney top dampers, and rebuilding a walkway. They were supposed to start the first week of June. Here's reality with Hoyt: - 5/30 he said, "I need one more week." - Never showed up. - 6/16 I emailed him to see what was up. - No response. - 6/28 I emailed again, - No response. - 7/8 I emailed and called again. - 7/24 I got a response that he would start on 7/29 because he was having truck issues. - 7/31 I emailed saying i expected him on 7/29, asking what's up... - Sometime after 7/31 I phoned Sean and told him I was consulting a lawyer - he responded and said that his bad online reviews were from a tiny proportion of his customers, and that he would come do the job. - 8/7 - Hoyt showed up, partially repaired the chimney, and partially removed the existing walkway. They left the stones cluttering the driveway, and the front entrance virtually unuseable. - 8/12 - After I left a message Hoyt responded that, "I will be back Wednesday [8/14] with crew to complete the work. Should be done in 1-2 days." -- Never showed up. 8/14 - Hoyt says, "I can't make it till tomorrow but will finish by Friday." - One person showed up to finish the "demo" - he didn't finish it, and left to get a tool, promising to return. 8/14 - I called and was told the worker had truck issues and they were working on getting back to finish demo. 8/16 - More excuses about truck problems and says he's leaving on vcacation, but would try to finish demo. - Never showed. 8/28 - He says, "...can finish demo next week then you can lay plumbing on the 5th-6th and I can return Sept 9th to finish that Monday." - I returned from a trip on 9/5 and demo was not done. 9/6 - One person showed up to do demo, and would have left the job incomplete is we hadn't pushed him to finish demo. 9/7 - Hoyt sent message saying, "Demo is 100% complete and ready to go for heating pipe. Please let me know when your ready for me to complete the work." [I am installing snowmelt tubing]/ 9/8 - I notified Hoyt that the plumbing was 100% complete and i expected him on 9/9 as per his message of 8/28. 9/9 - No show. 9/10 - Again I emailed asking when he was going to finish the project. 9/15 - Hoyt finally responded saying he would be here to finish on "Wednesday." [9/18] 9/17 - Hoyt sends email saying he can't make it on 9/18, but he will be here on 9/19. 9/29 - Another no show by Hoyt with no communication. I called - he didn't pick up, I left voicemail & email.

Hired Hoyt Masonry to repair our brick stairs. Sean and his son did such a nice job on the stairs we hired them to do chimney repairs and caps. Sean is very knowledgeable and helpful. He and his son did a great job.

Entry now looks wonderful - clean and crisp installation.  Job was interrupted by spring rains and the crew handled the timing of the job with frequent visits and good planning.

1. Sean and his company waterproofed my basement . It is a 19th century house with Fieldstone. I moved in and a day later, I had 4 inches of water. He realized the urgency and responded so quickly.  He guaranteed his work. The first time, they dug down 3 feet and it still had some water. He came back - they dug down 6 feet and painted the entire basement.  All of the team were hard workers and very respectful. 
 2. After having someone start a backyard project - it wasnot going well - the workers were not showing up and so Sean and his team finished the job with georgeous pavers, solar lights and cobble stones.  It looks awesome!

Sean made quick work of my broken front step. The job was complete and it looks like new.
