"Chad did an excellent job on the transfer switch. He cleaned up after himself and he has great customer service with his customers. I would hire him again for my electrical work and his prices are comparable to others in the same business. He also arrived on time . Great business. Marie Muse."

"Generator Transfer Switch installation 10-5-10 Jeff performed all work in a highly professional manner with all work rated as excellent. He checked all circuits with the generator running to confirm that all circuits where receiving power as set up. I woud recommend Jeff to anyone requiring electrical work and I plan on using Jeff for additional projects in the future. Bob Edstrom Allenstown,NH"

"Preferred Electric came right out to provide me with an estimate, which was lower than others and he seemed professional, so I hired him. He was able to perform the work within 2 weeks. He came and did the work himself. He installed the bath fan and kitchen curciuts as requestd. I then had him come back to install the smoke and CO2 Alarms in the house."

"Arete Electric did an outstanding job on my kitchen and basement after I experienced an under sink burst filter which occurred in the middle of the night… it was a flood. Tommy and his team were extremely reliable, skilled, flexible and simply a pleasure to deal with. A lot of work was needed due to differences in code from when my kitchen was built until now. They also were able to install undercabinet lighting at the counter level and floor level and cleverly hide electrical plugs so not to as interfere with the aesthetic of the kitchen . I highly recommend!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Before starting electrical work in Derry, consult a licensed electrician to assess your home’s system and discuss seasonal timing—spring through fall is ideal. Coordinate with Dig Safe before any excavation, and check with the local building department about permit requirements. Clear work areas, inform neighbors about possible disruptions, and get multiple quotes from local electrical contractors. Clear communication and planning help ensure a smooth project in Derry.

Helpful?

When hiring an electrical contractor in Derry, look for a licensed electrician with proven experience in local homes, especially those built in the mid-20th century. Ask about their process for handling permits and inspections, and confirm their knowledge of Derry’s specific building codes. Choose a pro who offers emergency services and is familiar with weather-related challenges common in New Hampshire, ensuring reliable support year-round.

Helpful?

Homeowners in Derry are increasingly choosing smart home upgrades, such as app-controlled lighting, surge protection, and smart thermostats. Standby generators and EV charging stations are in demand due to frequent power interruptions. Energy-efficient LED lighting, USB wall outlets, and dedicated circuits for home offices are also popular. Outdoor enhancements like landscape lighting and electric snow-melting systems reflect Derry’s focus on comfort and year-round resilience.

Helpful?

In Derry, if you notice frequent breaker trips, flickering lights, or a burning odor, these are strong signs you need a licensed electrician. If moisture is present in basements—especially near local waterways—or if your generator malfunctions during a storm, electrical work may be necessary. However, if only one appliance fails, it could be a device issue. For widespread outages or downed lines, contact your utility provider first.

Helpful?

Electrical projects in Derry often uncover outdated wiring, hidden junction boxes, or moisture issues, especially in older properties. Permit and inspection fees, utility service upgrades, and delays due to harsh winter weather can also add to the timeline. Unexpected needs like tree trimming for overhead lines or reinforcing walls for new panels are common. Working with a licensed electrician helps anticipate these Derry-specific challenges and minimize surprises.
