"Evans Electric was very responsive, which is becoming rare for most service providers. We had a 61 yo fuse panel that was a fire hazard and was replaced with a circuit breaker panel. Matt was quick to provide a quote and scheduled the service for the same week. He came on time and finished the job much quicker than we expected. Definitely five star service."

"We are so glad that Steve Beatty was referred us for our project. He was absolutely the ideal person for the job and ensured all the electricty and fans for our new covered deck were installed perfectly. We really appreciated his expertise in helping us make decisions and of course his professionalism. We will call him again for all our electrical needs and have already referred him to a friend."

"We wanted several updates done in our (new to us) 1990's home. Lighting and outdoor electrical access for patio and yard. They arrived on time for the estimate, and were professional, courteous, and answered all of our questions. Their estimate came in within our budget and we didn't get other estimates. We set up the work, and again they arrived on time and did a great job. Cleaned up as they went along installing area lighting in the kitchen. We have already had them give us estimates on two more small projects, as Ted said small projects are their specialty. And we are considering join their annual coverage 'club' that saves us money and gives us annual safety inspections on several things in the house. We definitely recommend Mr Sparky."

"I've been struggling to come up with the words to describe how impressed we were with Outdoor Artisan. As other reviewers have mentioned, their service and dedication is beyond compare. Clive came highly recommended and after meeting with him the first time we knew right away that he was the person for the job. The design he brought to us simply blew us away. He is a true artist with an incredible talent that's hard to explain until you experience it. Every detail is thought out: the planting of a tree in relation to the sun, the position of a boulder... What we found to be just as impressive is that everyone with Outdoor Artisan shares that same dedication and passion. Jason, our project manager, was outstanding! Always available, quick to answer any questions we had and offering his own suggestions along the way. The entire Outdoor Artisan team, from the office to the stone cutters, were such a pleasure to work with and gave us a space that is not only beautiful but functional as well. We plan to enjoy it for years to come. We could not give a company a higher recommendation than Outdoor Artisan!"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

There are several telltale signs to let you know that your ceiling fan needs servicing or replacement. For instance, if it’s wobbling, rotating too slowly, or if your ceiling fan is making noise such as squeaks, buzzes, and thumps, it’s time to have it looked at by a professional. Not only may it indicate a potential problem with the fan itself, but it could also signal a red flag that it’s improperly assembled or there’s an issue with the wiring.

There are many types of ceiling fans available, each designed for different spaces and needs. Standard ceiling fans are the most common type and work well in most rooms. Low-profile ceiling fans are better suited for rooms with low ceilings. Smart ceiling fans can be controlled with a smartphone or voice commands. For larger spaces with ceilings between 10 and 25 feet high, large ceiling fans are ideal. Dual-motor fans have two motors to produce more airflow in multiple directions. You can also find energy-efficient or Energy-Star models that can be up to 60% more efficient, as well as fans with built-in lights or retractable blades.

When choosing a mounting bracket, you have the option between flush mounts and downrod mounts. Flush mounts are the better option for low ceilings as they feature a lower profile. Downrod mounts are the optimal choice for rooms with high ceilings as they offer a pole that adjusts the height of the fan.

Whether you can install a ceiling fan yourself depends on if you're replacing an existing fixture or installing one where no wiring exists. If you are replacing an existing fan, an experienced DIYer may be able to do the job, which can save on labor costs. This work typically doesn’t require a permit, but there’s always a safety risk when dealing with electrical components, so hiring a pro is still a good idea, especially if you aren't handy. Keep in mind you may need a special ladder for high or vaulted ceilings. However, if you are installing a new ceiling fan where there is no current fixture, you must hire a licensed electrician. In most areas, it is required by law that a professional runs new wiring and pulls the necessary permits. Attempting to install wiring yourself can be dangerous and a code violation.

Many ceiling fan-rated electrical boxes tend to be made of metal. However, some electrical boxes may also be made of heavy-duty plastic that is reinforced with metal support structures. It may also have an attachment that connects directly to a ceiling joist. If you are ever ensure, consult with a licensed professional to get their insight on best practices and whether the installation is a safe one.
