"1st time having a tree removed; always did it myself but this one was too much for me to handle. It got damaged Thursday so I called that evening. Tony answered and said he'd be out Friday morning to look at it and said if I liked the price he could start on it right away which surprised me; nowadays I figured I'd have to make an appointment. He came out and gave me a good quote so I went ahead and let his crew take care of it. I could see some of the work through my SimpliSafe doorbell, they used a spider which is a lightweight aerial lift to get up high, very little impact on my fescue lawn. It started raining towards the end but they stayed and finished. I wasn't even home the whole time so they left the invoice on the porch and they came by later when I got home and we settled up. I gave them extra for their hard work and for the fast response. Thank you guys so much for a great 1st time experience! Vic Hardy in Hampton-Fairmont, Clemmons NC"

"Mr. Brown came out and looked at the job. He gave a fair quote and was available to do the job when I wanted it done. He arrived promptly. Did a great job grinding out the tree and did not leave a mess behind. I would recommend the company to others."

"We too had an excellent experience with Triad. These guys really are the best. Professional, punctual, courteous and extremely skilled. I contacted them Thursday morning, had an estimate from them that afternoon, and they had a full crew out here hard at work the next day. Performed difficult tree removal in a very tight spot. They're exactly what you want in a tree service."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

You should avoid cutting off the top of mature cherry trees. This process is called tree topping, and it’s not recommended for cherry trees—or any trees, for that matter. Tree topping removes between one-third to half of the length of the tree trunk, resulting in structurally unsound, fruitless suckers. The only exception is for saplings. Young pie, sour, and tart cherry trees that are over 30 inches tall in the fall or winter before the tree blooms can benefit from heading cuts.

Unless it’s dead or dangerous, think twice about cutting down a tree in your yard. They’re good for health, well-being, wildlife, and the environment. Plus, local authorities often have regulations prohibiting the removal of trees, especially protected species or individual trees with historical value.

It’s possible, although a lot depends on the cause of damage and what steps you take. If the remaining parts of the maple tree are alive and not under attack by disease or pests, they can often be saved even if large portions of the maple tree have died. Frequent watering, careful pruning, mulch, and any recommended fungicides or insecticides can all help with survival.

The safest way to cut down a tree is to make sure you’re completely prepared and have done all the necessary safety checks, including double-checking your equipment is in good working order, you have plenty of clearance to fell the tree, you’re wearing all the safety gear, and you have a partner to help you (who should also be wearing safety gear).

Most experts recommend removing a tree that has sustained more than 25% loss in the limbs, trunk, or circumference of the bark. Doing an initial trimming of damaged and dangling branches, but then waiting a few days of monitoring to decide how much more you might need to cut can help you better assess the total damage to the tree. However, consulting a tree maintenance pro to make this determination the best course of action before removing a tree.
