Small jobs welcome

"Mr. Brown came out and looked at the job. He gave a fair quote and was available to do the job when I wanted it done. He arrived promptly. Did a great job grinding out the tree and did not leave a mess behind. I would recommend the company to others."

"My expectations were high and Bryan exceeded them! He listened to what I wanted and offered valuable suggestions. They worked so hard and so smart and did a beautiful job. What set them apart in my book was the cleanup -- I have never had anyone leave the work area so pristine! Such attention to detail! I highly recommend Gardenia Landscaping Service and look forward to working with them in the future."

Customers say: True professional

"Wonderful!! They contacted me the same day I posted on Angi and took down the trees a few days later. They came back within a week to trim a couple bushes and lay all of the mulch! We also hired them to cut our grass for the season. They were prompt, reasonably priced, friendly and did a great job! I would definitely recommend them!"

Small jobs welcome

"Dan Ebert with Salem Landscaping was a pleasure to work with. He came to my house within days to see what my landscaping needs were, gave excellent suggestions, and had the job completed a few days after that. He is knowledgeable and his crew did a fast, professional job. His price was fair and I will be hiring him again."

"We too had an excellent experience with Triad. These guys really are the best. Professional, punctual, courteous and extremely skilled. I contacted them Thursday morning, had an estimate from them that afternoon, and they had a full crew out here hard at work the next day. Performed difficult tree removal in a very tight spot. They're exactly what you want in a tree service."

Small jobs welcome

"This is a professional landscaping company headed by Daryl Lane who is extremely knowledgeable about his business, does things when he says he will and at the cost agreed upon. He is a very nice and respectful gentleman. We found his company on line after just having purchased a home in Kernersville, NC. The yard had been severely neglected and needed complete restoration. We had used the HOA landscaping company to remove all bushes and trees which resulted in damage to a termite trap despite warnings about where they were. Termite traps are expensive to replace and the HOA landscaper felt no reason why he should pay so we looked for another company and found Lane Professional Services. In just a day after visiting our property Daryl gave us a very detailed quote with individual pricing for everything. Within a week he had completed his work and we are very pleased with the result. Neighbors and people just driving by have commented on what a great job he did. Since there is need for watering every day for a month, I was very happy that Daryl would accept this task when I was called away for 5 days. This man and his company are highly recommended."

"These guys are the absolute best! They are very hard working, with reasonable pricing. They are our go-to for all things lawn related now. Our grass has never looked more maintained / well kept when mowed. Recently I hired them for a larger project, to clean out some overgrown shrubbery and debris— and they did a great job. They always go above and beyond. Highly highly highly recommend!"

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Most trees can be successfully transplanted while they are young, but pines, walnuts, and some oak tree varieties are more difficult to move because their root systems grow deeper than most other trees. Also, trees adapted to sandy soil with wide root systems like beeches, willows, and aspens are harder to dig out because their roots spread much farther out from the trunk. In these cases, unless the trees are very young and small, it’s a good idea to consult a tree planting professional.

Opt for a barefoot tree. Pros harvest barefoot trees when they’re dormant (leafless). They shake the dirt from the root ball and pack it in moist material.

These trees can cost half as much as the trees at your local nursery, and you can buy them online—so there’s a much wider selection. Just make sure you keep your barefoot tree cool until you’re ready to plant it.

Unfortunately, palm tree stumps are one of the most difficult types to remove due to how their roots grow. Unlike other trees, palm tree roots grow horizontally and vertically. Palm tree roots grow as deep as three feet into the ground, although soil and growing conditions could mean they go as far as 50 inches into the earth.

If you want to be able to repurpose the grass in the area where you removed a stump later, you’ll have to dig quite deep—and perhaps wide—to trim away all the roots.

The best time to transplant a tree is when it is dormant. For many trees, this means either in the fall after the leaves have dropped (around October or November) or in early spring before new growth begins (around March). The ideal timing can depend on the type of tree. Deciduous trees do well when moved in early spring or fall, while evergreens are best transplanted in early spring or late summer. For example, pine trees are best moved in early fall, but maples prefer late fall. Avoid transplanting in winter, as the frozen or hard, cold soil poses a significant risk to the roots and prevents the tree from acclimating properly.

The best tools for tree removal include a chainsaw for large trees, an ax for notching and cutting down small trees, and a wedge to help control the direction a tree falls in. A hatchet can be useful for very small trees, but won’t be effective for medium to large trees.
