"Bill and Billy were very professional and efficient with the projects I had at my home. They built me and 2 car garage and deck off the back of my house. Pricing was very fair and the quality of their work was top notch. They're family owned and operated. I highly recommend them as a general contractor and builder for any home projects."

"Great. I've been an Excel customer for years for my home power washing and deck maintenance and was in a bind because the landscaper I hired was a no show, so I gave Excel a call. The guys were timely in their arrival and completion of work. Their prices are higher than other companies I have used, but their quality of work is outstanding and well worth the difference in price."

"I called and spoke with Heather she had Brian call me back. At that time he arrived exactly on time and once the work was completed I was so impressed that I had him do an estimate for some future work. He emailed me the estimate and I will be planning to have that work done in the near future."

"Fantastic coordination with the owner Marc - he was prompt in providing an estimate.  Over and above expections in his ability to adjust the schedule for my needs.  The crew was on time, courteous, highly skilled and they cleaned the job site after the work was complete.  When the bill came up it was at the agreed price.
I had other estimates and MI Electric was the best price, value and service.  Would hire these folks again for any sized project!!

"It went very well - Scott (the S in S&G) was really great to work with.  He was always very prompt with answering phone calls/texts and was very knowledgeable about what would be needed to match the paint textures.  I assumed it would be a much bigger job potentially, but he recommended the project that worked best and had the best value.
My only mild complaint would be it took us away to get everything estimated/scheduled, but once we said, "go" - he jumped at it and between his subs and himself, knocked it out in remarkable time.
Would highly recommend, especially since every other contractor I tried working with basically never even returned a single phone call; I got Scott the first try by phone.

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Framing a house with steel generally takes less time—around five to eight weeks—than most building materials. The steel components can also be made quickly off-site and manufactured with pre-punched holes for running piping and electrical wiring, which will lessen the prep work and extra labor during construction.

Bump-out additions can add some space to a closet without requiring any significant structural work. This entails pushing back the existing rear or side of the closet, simply moving the wall into either an adjacent room or unused space. For ground-floor closets, this could even be extended to the exterior of the home, but that has its own complications. Bump-outs are a good discussion to have with your contractor if you’re just looking to increase the space a little—not renovate the entire closet space.

An A-frame home can be cheaper to build than a traditional house, but that is not always a given. Prices can be fairly similar in some cases, depending on the location, design, and necessary site preparation. Costs for an A-frame typically run between $100 to $200 per square foot, which is comparable to the cost of a traditional home. The cost of an A-frame can come in under those numbers if you opt for a prefabricated kit.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.
