Customers say: True professional

"Antonio (Tony) and his help staff have always been on time. When we start each project he will ask what time he can be there in the morning to get started and he will always be there at that time. He and his son are incredibly neat and pay meticulous attention to detail. They will cover every speck of the area being painted and clean up at the end of their day. This includes vacuuming and sweeping. Their work is professional and quick.
When you get a quote from Antonio, don't expect the cheapest quote, but expect to get the best quality, promptness and courtesy.

In the past 8 years they have:
Painted 1 bedroom and bathroom
Power washed and repainted my exterior on a house with a large amount of wood (windows, 60 foot wood deck and pergola)
Installed metal stud, drywall and paint for 2,000 square foot office space
Kilz, foam board, wood studs, drywall, installed cabinets and all doors in my basement (conversion to an apartment)
Cleaned, Kilz basement, stripped wallpaper, repainted, installed 2 toilets, installed laminate flooring on a 1970's 1,500 sq foot home to prepare for selling.
Their work is wonderful and I will continue to use them"

"Joe really communicated with all the contractors really well. Our patio turned out unbelievable, with the colors and border that Joe helped us pick to match the house. The guys that did the screen in were awesome too. Definitely we would recommend. We are very happy."

"Mike and Joe added structural support and upgraded the R-value insulation to our 2nd level sunroom.  They did a great job and worked extremely hard and quickly.  Mike was very communicative and gave me a start date and stuck with it.  He answered all my emails and questions.  His quote was in line with others and I?m glad I used them.  He finished early and didn?t over charge me.  There were some unknowns at the start of the project, and I felt he was very honest and completed only necessary work.  Overall, I was very impressed with their work and I will hire them again!

"Fantastic coordination with the owner Marc - he was prompt in providing an estimate.  Over and above expections in his ability to adjust the schedule for my needs.  The crew was on time, courteous, highly skilled and they cleaned the job site after the work was complete.  When the bill came up it was at the agreed price.
I had other estimates and MI Electric was the best price, value and service.  Would hire these folks again for any sized project!!

Unfinished Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Yes, a 2x6 should hold a porch swing and safely support the load. A smaller joist runs the risk of it not offering enough support for the swing. If you have a joist smaller than 2x6, add additional bolstering support.

It’s sometimes safe to replace a load-bearing wall with a beam, but you need a structural engineer to sign off on the project. You’ll also likely have to upgrade to a steel I-beam or another material that’s stronger than wood to maintain the level of support you need without the wall underneath.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.

Bow windows need support because they are large and extend out from the exterior wall of the home. Bow windows may extend 1 foot to several feet from the outside of the home, so you’ll need to provide additional support to handle this weight. A window contractor will be able to provide the proper amount of support for your new bow window.

For maximum stability, install grab bars on wall studs, as this will adequately support the weight. However, if you don't have access to studs, you can get by with wall anchors. If opting for the latter, choose specialty hollow wall anchors.
