"Three other roofing companies tried and failed to fix the domer leaks. Ridge Roofing succeeded on the first attempt. One year later, a wind storm blew of some of the cap shingles on the porch roof. Called on a Monday, cost estimate on Tuesday and fixed on Friday. That IS called SERVICE."

"The first meeting I had with this company was when I needed a small repair to a leaking roof vent. They came when they said they would, repaired it expertly, at an excellent price. After that I wanted to replace my roof, it was 20 some year roof and naturally thought of Exterior Contractor. Made an agreement with the company about a month before the replacement date. The week before the work was supposed to start we got 12-14 inches of snow. The day before them starting they said that they would have to wait a couple of days for the remaining snow to melt. They came out two days later and most of the snow was gone but it was still extremely cold. They got up on the roof and stripped off the old shingles put on a new under layer, shingled over half the roof.the next day they came out and it was again very cold and finished the job. They did a great job cleaning up, nails, tar paper, bits of shingles, all part of a roofing job. I would recommend this this company to anyone. not only did a great job but was also very professional, returned calls promptly."

"Carlos and his assistants did great work. We were repairing a 50 year old large barn that needed rotten wood replaced, posts replaced, blocks replaced and block joints repaired, a lot of siding replaced, many holes in the tin roof repaired, gutters installed, rafters repaired, floorboards replaced, outside steps to the upstairs, and painting the whole exterior. Carlos was excellent at spotting problems with the building, communicating them, and coming up with solutions. He worked quick and efficiently and was reliable, always showing up when he said he would and was good at communicating (through text mostly and the occasional phone call). He did a couple extra repairs beyond what I asked him, just because he saw they were needed. He knew what he was doing and what products were needed. To save me money, I bought the materials which was fine with him. I would say his only weakness was in developing a detailed materials list before the project started. He knew what he needed but putting down details on paper wasn't his strong point. He and his helpers were courteous and friendly."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Yes, moss can be dangerous for your roof if left in place to grow without treatment. The moss soaks up and holds moisture. Having a constantly damp roof could lead to problems with rot for the parts of the roof that consist of wood. Additionally, a patch of thick moss may draw insects and birds, which could damage the roof. Thick moss could block the roof’s drainage system. Water then may back up after a rainstorm and cause further damage that could eventually lead to roof repair expenses or the cost of roof replacement.

Underlayment is used between existing shingles and a new metal roof to prevent friction and wear from the shingle granules on the underside of the metal. The underlayment also helps prevent water intrusion and allows expansion and contraction without wearing away at the roofing material.

After you take steps to determine when your roof was last replaced, you may realize you need a new one. Hiring a roofing contractor you can trust involves asking for references and examples of past work. Verify any qualifications the roofer provides. Ask about the expected time to complete the work and about putting guarantees in writing.

As with any roofing material, there are benefits and drawbacks to consider before installing roll roofing. On the plus side, roll roofing is budget-friendly, lightweight, and comparatively easy to install. It is also ideal for low-sloped roofs and lasts around 10 years. The cons of roll roofing, however, include its low durability compared to roofing materials, restricted color choices, and low ROI.

Pros:

  • Low-cost

  • Lightweight

  • Cut to size

  • Easy and quick installation

  • Designed for low-sloped roofs

  • Waterproofs your roof for an average of 10 years

  • Easy to purchase and transport

Cons:

  • Less durable than asphalt shingles

  • More prone to cracks and tears

  • Short life span

  • Not as many color or style choices

  • Not as aesthetically pleasing as shingles, wood, or clay tiles

  • Not preferred for a higher home resale value

The purchase price of 3-tab shingles is less than that of other material varieties, such as architectural shingles. However, 3-tab shingles generally last far fewer years than even the least expensive architectural ones. Other roofing types, such as metal or clay, also cost more than 3-tab shingles. However, if you plan to stay in your home for many years, the long-term cost of any of these options can compete with 3-tabs because of their longevity.
