"I hired Refloor to come back and do my basement too. The installation was delayed due to stock shortage but the floors are in and they are beautiful. I hired my own painter to stain the moldings to match the floors. The floors look so much like real wood. Great job!"

Flooring Installation questions, answered by experts

Your Shelby home is ideal for new flooring if the subfloors are stable, crawl spaces are dry, and there’s no evidence of foundation settling. Consistent indoor humidity and good ventilation are positive signs. If your current floors show wear, water damage, or are outdated, and you plan to remain in your home, investing in a flooring upgrade is a smart choice.

Helpful?

In Shelby, cosmetic flooring projects focus on updating the look of a space with new finishes or patterns, often using luxury vinyl or engineered wood for quick results. Functional projects, however, address underlying issues like moisture resistance and durability—important in Shelby’s humid climate—using materials such as tile or sealed concrete. Functional upgrades may also involve subfloor repairs and take longer to complete.

Helpful?

In Shelby, unexpected costs during flooring installation often stem from uncovering moisture issues in crawl spaces, especially in older mill-style homes. Additional expenses may arise if subfloor repairs or leveling are needed due to Shelby’s clay-rich soil. Homeowners should also plan for permit fees if structural work is involved, disposal of old flooring, and extra materials for transitions between rooms with different floor heights.

Helpful?

Flooring contractors in Shelby begin by evaluating moisture levels, as local humidity and crawl space conditions can impact flooring longevity. They next inspect subfloors for damage or unevenness, common in Shelby’s historic homes. Professionals then ensure proper ventilation and expansion gaps, especially for hardwood flooring. Throughout the process, they follow local building codes and address any electrical needs for features like radiant floor heating.

Helpful?

New homeowners in Shelby should start with moisture management, such as sealing crawl spaces and adding vapor barriers. Next, focus on high-traffic areas like kitchens and entryways, choosing durable, moisture-resistant flooring materials. Safety improvements in bathrooms and basements are also important. Prioritizing these steps helps protect your investment and ensures your home is comfortable and easy to maintain year-round.
