"Couldnâ t have had a better experience, hire Gas Masters ASAP. They were always on time and unlike most competitors, they gave us multiple options to install a new gas line/pipe. Installation was as smooth as advertised and they handled all Gas line inspection coordination planning/scheduling and re-scheduling after another company failed to properly install my range properly (multiple times)."

"From the 1st visit to explore options for a tub to shower conversion until the actual work today I was impressed! Anthony R covered all the bases in our initial meeting and made the decision to move forward easy for us. The installers, Roger B & Chris C were an awesome team!! They did a fantastic job making my bathroom look great with the new walk-in shower. Roger & Chris handled every aspect of the conversion with expertise and care. Thank you for creating this new shower that my 90 year young mother will enjoy!! Ruth G. in Durham, NC"

"Bennie Bittle provided excellent customer service. He took the time to explain to me what he was doing and why he was doing it. He was clean and neat in his work habits and cleaned up after himself. He was prompt and worked efficiently. It was obvious that he has a lot of experience in plumbing. My husband and I would definitely hire him again should the need present itself."

"Flate was great. He walked me through troubleshooting and testing which was great. The only problem was that my repair was more complicated than I wanted to take on so I decided to call in a professional to complete the repair. No fault of the technician. I would use them again for a future repair."

Percolation Tests questions, answered by experts

Unlike some home problems, such as water damage or pest infestations, asbestos can be very difficult to spot. Asbestos is a mineral in the form of microscopic fibers and was previously used in building materials for its bonding and fireproofing abilities. Insulation, roof shingles, ceiling tiles, floor tiles, pipe wrappings, soundproofing materials, and textured paint features like popcorn ceilings are common sources of asbestos, particularly in homes built before 1980.

Age is perhaps the biggest indicator of asbestos, as legislation passed in the 1970s labeled asbestos as dangerous and regulated its use in building materials. Signs of age in the form of wear and tear or material degradation are also indicators that asbestos fibers may be leaking into the air, but ultimately, it’s difficult to detect with the naked eye. If you have reason to suspect asbestos in your home, it’s best to hire a certified asbestos inspector.

Clear the area for access and inform the testing team about the building’s history and renovations.

Asbestos is commonly found in certain older homes, depending on the time period in which they were built. Asbestos use in home construction began in the 1920s and peaked after World War II before being limited by legislation in the ’70s, so a house constructed in 1880 is unlikely to contain asbestos, while one built in 1950 is much more likely to. Research a home’s history to determine the time period when it was built and any renovations made since.

Mold, VOCs, radon, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter are typically measured.

Vermiculite insulation that comes from a particular mine before 1990 is likely to contain asbestos. This is particularly true in the U.S. However, not all types of vermiculite insulation contain asbestos. Since you can't detect the presence of asbestos without special equipment, it's best to assume that the insulation contains the dangerous mineral and to either leave it alone or hire a professional to handle it.
